Delta's Operational move from T5 to T2/3 at LAX:

Delta has moved to: T2 and T3 with eventual connector to TBIT (note: there is currently only airside bus service to stay securely between T2 & T3, the walking connector has not been built yet.)

Where to check bags: As of January 13, 2020, non-Sky Priority customers must check their bag(s) at the terminal their flight departs from, unless their flight departs from TBIT, in which case, they must check their bag at Terminal 2. Sky priority customers can check their bag at either terminal. See this link for more information.

Date(s) of move: May 12, 2017 - May 17, 2017

Here is a helpful chart from Delta which covers all Domestic / Int'l. transfer combos (AND TOTAL TRANSFER TIMES) between T2, T3 & TBIT.

New Bus Routes will help with connections:
- Circular Airfield Bus between TBIT, T2 and T3
- Airfield Bus between T2 and T3

Bus Map

Will there be a SkyClub: Yes, there is one in each terminal. Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse will remain.
- The SkyClub in T2 opened on May 20th (Former AC Maple Leaf Lounge)
pix in post 1058
- The SkyClub in T3 opened on May 24th (Former VX Loft)

https://www.delta.com/content/www/en...d-updates.html

Where Will The Delta One Check In Lounge Be Located:

Delta will temporarily offer dedicated check-in space in Terminal 2 (first door closest to T1) while a long-term Delta One experience is finalized.
In T2, there is a small Delta One seating area with refreshments. An agent will escort you from the check in/lounge area through a back pathway up stairs to TSA precheck. Its a shorter walk to check-in at SkyPriority and easier if you have a carry on and don't want to drag it up a flight of stairs. 11/3/17)

Airlines joining DL in T2/3 for landside and departures:
- AeroMexico (T2)
- Virgin Atlantic (T2)
- WestJet (T3)

Landside T2 only, departures from TBIT:
- Virgin Australia
- Volaris

Landside T3 only, departures from TBIT:
- Avianca/Taca
- Copa (effective April 7)
- InterJet

Will there be secure links between T2-T3 and TBIT: Yes, the final plan is to let pax walk between all airside.

T5 was certainly not one of the world's great airport terminals, but was reasonably modern and functional. Agree that good food options were somewhat lacking in T5, but one could walk airside to T4-T6-T7-T8 (and recently TBIT as well).

I never have understood the problem with the T5-T6 tunnel. It is functional and lighted well enough to see where you are going. I'll take airside tunnels over shuttle buses every day of the week.

T3 is a tear down, plain and simple. It should have been demolished and replaced years ago but was allowed to linger as the home of low cost carriers. Now instead of getting a new terminal in its place, we will get a patchwork renovation job done while the terminal is operational and as a result dragging on for several years.

I have little experience with T2, but reports on this thread state that the TSA checkpoint is inefficient for one thing. Sounds like T2 is no better than T5 and may be worse.

The lack of airside connection between T2-T3 and the horrible condition of T3 clearly make this a downgrade for the next several years. Once the airside connectors are built and T3 is rebuilt it will be fine, but there are years of unpleasant LAX connections to get through before then.

T2 skyclub was open today, its large with lots of good seating. They didn't have any hot food offerings but it was the largest and most diverse selection of food & snacks that I've ever seen at a skyclub. Booze was self service. Overall it was a lot better than I had anticipated. Our flight from BOS arrived at T3 which is a cluster f disaster zone. I was quite happy we were departing from T2. We did manage to leave the airport for about 7 of our 11 hour layover. Used the D1 checkin at T2 upon our return. (To the right of sky priority lines). All is well, I'm in 7a on DL 41 sporting my very fashionable D1 pajamas!

I traversed T3 and T2 late Monday afternoon as part of a SJC-LAX-SLC-BWI trip.

The verdict is that Delta has nowhere to go but up.

Our E175 from SJC landed on 24R and stopped rolling at 1720. We had to wait several minutes for planes taking off on 24L, including an A380. We then were allowed to cross 24L, but then had to stop because another E175 was in the alley trying to park at a T3 gate. We finally got to our gate (38) at 1738, only to find that there was no one ready to operate the jetway. A few minutes went by before someone thoughtfully showed up to move the jetway into position. I had 1746 on my watch when I got up to leave the plane.

My first reaction to T3 was "a third rate terminal for a third world city". Grim and packed with passengers. I saw some signage for "Gate 35P", on the opposite side from gate 38; at least there were escalators there moving people up and down from the buses. The bus operation seemed to be pretty smooth, with buses coming every 5 minutes or so; the bus ride to T2, next to Gate 22, was about 2 minutes.

The situation at gate 22, where the SLC flight was being staged, was chaotic; I used the delay to get upstairs and check out the new Sky Club, where there were copious amounts of self-service free adult beverages (but no Woodford).

T2 seemed to be a bit nicer than T5, and the new club there seemed nicer than the former T5 club. It will be interesting to see the finished product on a future trip.

On my trip through T2, Aer Lingus was using one of the gates. I would imagine that they would be leaving to join AA/BA at some point.

T2 security at 4:30am was already a cluster, as there's one frazzled lady checking boarding passes for everyone, then pointing you to which line. The problem is that there doesn't appear to be a priority lane in operation and those with Precheck are forced to wait in a long-ish queue until you get up to this lady who lets you skip maybe 30 people and go up the escalator to Pre. The hold up stems from the fact that once the small queue right in front of the escalators for normal pax is full, she stops checking boarding passes - thus making lots of precheck people, who should be going ahead, to just stand in the line. Many pax, including myself, tried to go around the regular passengers waiting and tell her we are precheck, but she said she must check boarding passes "in order." Messy system. It needs to be segmented with different entry points. Also the non-Pre priority people were also losing their minds. Once upstairs it was quick and effective.

SkyClub has nice furniture but still feels temporary. Very limited food choices. For breakfast they had pre-packaged hard boiled eggs, some yogurt and packaged snacks (cookies, popcorn, etc). Nary a pastry or bagel to be found.

Glad to hear the Maple Leaf, former Pan Am Clipper Club Lounge is coming back to DL! My Clipper Club membership card circa 1990 will no longer admit me to the lounge, but the NW World Club membership converted into DL Lifetime Executive Membership will! ^ . I joke with the DL entry attendants I know now I will die in 2079 because that is the expiration date of my DL Executive membership! (If only I live that long!) Since I joined NW World Clubs with a lifetime membership for a then whopping $1500 fee in 1989, I suppose Delta assumes that a lifetime membership's maximum is 90 years and that few of us at age 120+ will still be around to ask for a membership extension!

In the original releases about the terminal moves, EI was scheduled to move, I believe to T6. But in later releases that disappeared and they stayed put in T2 for whatever reason.

Great news!

I emailed Delta about the issue and they agreed I was entitled to ORC.

I am sitting here in T-3 waiting for my flight. This terminal is a major downgrade from its previous operations. Worse than JFK. Hardly any amenities, horribly long security lines and not even close to enough places to sit much less charge devices. I understand remodeling takes time but it was just the bare minimum here! I'm going to go back to flying out of a John Wayne for awhile again!

Thats T3 at LAX. DL is already at work on patching it up making it the next JFK T2. Shake Shack is coming to T3 and the temporary wall by the restrooms will be a bar. T3 will be a mess until it is completely torn down and rebuilt.

Barney's Beanery is a well known local chain of bars that serve burgers and other bar food.

Interesting OT fact: The original location was (and still is) in West Hollywood, and opened in 1920. They were well known for being highly discriminatory towards gay people, and had a sign up that said "[derogatory F word for gay men] STAY OUT!. Ironically this restaurants is located in what is now the heart of the Los Angles gay community.

Finally got to see the ClusterF that is DL's new LAX home.

Good god....T3 IS like a third-world airport. It honestly reminded me of NBO. Yuck.

Came over to T2....much nicer.....SkyClub doesn't have an espresso machine yet but breakfast offerings are good, and the chairs are extremely comfy to my bad back.

What is weird is that DL KNOWS it is an effing mess.....LITERALLY EVERY SINGLE DL EMPLOYEE AT LAX HAS ASKED ME "HOW ARE YOU DOING TODAY?" With a smile on their face. Hell, even the new SkyClub wifi password is "smile."

Of course DL knows it's a mess. Why else would they be planning to spend almost 2 billion dollars on improvements??

You're upset that DL employees are smiling??? Maybe you should try UA, they don't smile much
