Down to $800

I spent some time in DXB this past Jan and found it enjoyable.
$800 is a steal, though I just did smf-sea-pvg-lax-smf for $650.80 RT on a very empty flight. I don't begin to understand airline economics

DXB is an interesting place to visit for 2 - 3 days IMHO. I am heading over there on a short pleasure trip in December but I've opted for Emirates (EK) this trip.

.....and the new government contract fare uses a (JetBlue?) codeshare on a ME3 operated flight.

Did this once. It's a rough flight if you're not used to double-digit hours on a plane. Nearly as long as the longest nonstop out there (which I think is DFW>SYD).

I have taken DL8/DL7 about 20 times most recently being November.

DL 7 was a little shorter than normal (just over 16) but it was absolute torture. When I took it in May it was 17 1/2.

I had the best seat on the airplane (7A or in the old days 14D) every time.

Two hours late. Lazy crew. Horrid food. Uncomfortable seat. Crap IFE.

After that experience stopping in CDG or AMS no longer bothers me. I will miss DL 8 since it is only 14 hours and gets to DXB at 8 PM (AF and KL get in at midnight) but I will not miss DL 7.

Can't even imagine Y.

So to answer the question, no I would not take this last flight if it were free.

This is very interesting -- I was just posted a country in that region that uses Dubai as its travel hub. Maybe I need to look into plying Emirates for a status match as it now looks like I'll be flying on them frequently pretty soon on that contract fare...
