Well, I am around a lot going forward (in AMS). It also works with older "girls." Social Engineering can be very powerful. But, the first rule.... do not post your good fortune or exception here on FlyerTalk. It will just irritate people.

I just don't really find trips to Europe long enough to warrant a GUC as I fly there a few times per year, and to be honest, DL's EC+ bulkhead seats are more than perfect for me. The other thing is that I try to route my EU and Africa MR's through AMS because KLM sells Business Class seats on DoD for dirt cheap. I have been able to upgrade to WBC on every single KLM long-haul flight I have been on (except one AMS-JNB) for less than $300 and 32,000 SkyMiles. Usually LAX-AMS and AMS-JNB-AMS.
No upgrades but got bubbles and what was left from WBC once from a nice KLM CA. Made my day.
As long as the weather is fine i bet the load in D1 will be very light on that day....like 5 regular pax and 8-9 NRSA up front on that JFK-ATH leg. Didn't you travel with a buddy pass in the past?

You can get a free "grand-slam breakfast" at Denny's on the way to the airport. That way you will not get that hungry sitting in Y.

My flight is coming up very soon. I just got off the phone with the DM line and my SEA-CDG flight on my bday is J3 Y(-2). Gotta love Christmas-time travel!
I will definitely approach the gate agent right away and volunteer my seat for VDB. Last time I did that on a 767 route I got OpUpped (as a lowly FO!), which was my first experience in international business class.
Hey...I don't really need anything for my bday....but an OpUp sure would be great! ^^
