DL48 a 747 on 7/3?

I was looking up flight 48 on flightaware and I noticed that the flight was operated using a 747. I didn't know that DL still ran 747s through JFK. Anybody know what happened? Looks like it ferried MSP-JFK to operate JFK-AMS-ATL. That's quite the upgrade from a 763 to 744!!!
Safe travels!

I don't know about 7/3, but on 7/2 the N671US, which had been taken out of storage shortly before, flew MSP-JFK-AMS to fill the gap of the N664US that was severely damaged by hail and was taken out of service.

This is the plane which was rushed out of storage after the hail damaged the one en route to ICN.

It had to divert on the return from AMS and was stuck overnight in DUB and then delayed out of there the following day. Looks like it has been a bit more reliable since then, though there may have been another cancel on a DTW-PVG segment. Hard to tell from the FlightAware data.

n.b. The link above is to my blog or to one which I am a regular contributor. FT rules require that I disclose that in the post.

Actually it was N664US which was involved in the hail incident!

You are absolutely correct. Sorry about the typo. I should be proofreading better... I have now corrected it in my posting.
