Valued Delta Customer

It's too bad I don't live outside of the USA, because then I'd probably be PM by the end of the year, as opposed to probably just getting stuck with FO. What a bizarre anti-xenophobic rule!

Welcome to FT!

I should think anti-xenophobic is a positive, no?

Every customer is valued at Delta.

Even the FO who purchases Priceline bulk tickets on the cheapest airline, but that happens to be Delta most of the time so he racks up a lot of miles and little spending.

I agree. Why even bother with MQMs if revenue should trump all? Perhaps so people feel good about seeing MQM/MQS counters rising?

It's actually the international flights that are going to kill me. DFW-ATL-AMS-CAI and back gets me about 13,000 MQMs, 7000 Skymiles, and just over 1000 MQDs. I moved to Dallas at the beginning of the year and stuck with Delta for some reason. American is starting to seem much more appealing, especially if I can get a status match.

Not sure what else matters here.

If you were still in a more DL friendly city then we could discuss the value of the Amex card.

But in DFW? Just switch to AA and be done.

They will grant gold status for 90 days, during the challenge period:

Earn 5000 EQP to keep gold

Earn 10000 EQP to get platinum

EQP accural heavily favors first/business class fares, so you'd have to be willing to spend a bit to keep status. It also costs around $100 to initiate a status challenge.

Don't forget that roughly,

Gold = FO
Plat = Gold
EXP = PM

Only if you WANT to make it on points vs miles. 100k miles is still EXP regardless of spend. If anything the points program makes it easier/quicker to get to EXP if you buy expensive tix. This is in reference to "keeping" Plat...you do have to get it on points to be clear but it is only 10000

This Delta One (first class) flight from Amsterdam to Atlanta probably didn't help much. Check out the disparity between MQMs and MQDs/miles. Is this a steal?

I'm in the same boat as the OP. I'll just hit $3,005 MQD's with about 60K MQM's though half of those were rollover from 2014.

I burned lots of miles this year and flew a few trips on UA when the price was right. I'm on track to end 2016 with less than 5k miles. BURN BABY BURN.
