My speculation would be with that added cargo capacity to see them on a lot of TATL routes in the summer and rotated to Brazil in the winter. Or whatever their top cargo markets are that is in range of an A330-300.

Here's a video from Airbus about this first 242-t A333 for Delta (registration number N822NW):

Looks like it will be the first Delta aircraft to feature the DELTA belly logo!
Delivery flight is tomorrow (29 May) from Toulouse to Atlanta (DL9931)

No, these were ordered by post-merger DL.
Probably to keep them consistent with the rest of the A330-300s (N801NW - N821NW are the 21 A333s inherited from NW during the merger). Delta has reserved N822NW to N831NW for these ten 242-t A333s...

I'm shocked to learn about the lack of complete Deltafication. Heavens to Betsey, what were those southern folks in Atlanta thinking?

Just keeping the fleet consistent.

Also FWIW the new 321s will have NxxxDN regs I believe.

I expect to see this plane floating around the normal A333 routings before Delta has enough to put them on dedicated routes. As I've said earlier, look at the short 777 routings for potential routes, i.e. LAX/MSP-NRT, JFK-TLV.
