I just flew SYR-JFK-FLL-ATL-GDL-ATL-SYR (long story). I was upgraded in advance on all legs except for the initial one since that flight was all coach. Alas, after February I'm being downgraded to Gold so who knows after that.

How many seats showing available in F at this time? RUC should get you ahead of just about everyone else, so if they start upgrading at the window you should be one of the first ones. Keep monitoring the seatmap around the window to see if F seats are filling and EC is opening up. If/when it does and you don't UG, call PM line.

DM, booked a (nearly) last minute return from MCO-LAX via DTW on the way out, seats were limited and I was able to get an aisle somewhere near the back. Today, 6 days out, I see that the MCO-DTW leg shows me in 5A.
1/20 MCO-DTW. U fare, upgrade at 6 days out.
1/20 DTW-LAX. U fare, no dice yet, still 5 open FC seats (if you can believe D.com)
1/21 LAX-MCO. U fare, currently exit aisle, 18 FC seats open.

I flew SEA-SLC-DEN-SLC-SEA today and as a mere Gold I snagged an upgrade to F on SEA-SLC after boarding (to my perfectly good economy comfort seat). I was upgraded on SLC-SEA shortly after booking yesterday morning. So 2/4 segments, not bad. I must have been on Q fare or above fare due to last minute nature of the trip.

Yesterday as Plat (never been in this kind of position before - - and pretty symmetry):
1st on Upgrade waitlist MSN-MSP (3 seats remaining)
1st on Upgrade waitlist MSP-CUN (3 seats remaining)
Both cleared at the gate. The return CUN-MSP-MSN for next week cleared already at the window. So far in 2015: 5 for 5 plus one op-up AMS-MSP. All Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday travel through MSP.
