We now know the facts:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/delta-air-lines-skymiles/1629493-offical-delta-award-stopovers-open-jaw-gone-skymiles2015.html

Official update from Delta CORP folks to me (Delta Points):

“There are no changes to stopovers. A recent change in IT at Delta.com discontinued the ability to book intl. stopovers online. You could still book them via reservations agents. We [Delta] are working with the res agents (who handle the bulk of the bookings already) to ensure they are properly assisting customers who might.” – DELTA CORP

Hello, I am a DL employee and was formerly in the Skymiles department before moving to a new position. I can tell you I still keep tabs on Skymiles and there is a memo that says award stopovers are still allowed but there was a glitch when they filed the fares. You have to call in to get it ticketed manually though. If the CSR say not possible refer them to the res policy update on the dlnet homepage.

I hope DL doesn't try to pull an excuse sort of like the following: "on the advice of our lawyers/due to legal issues, we are required to cancel free stopovers on award tickets and aren't allowed to provide advance notice of the policy/pricing change."

Obviously UA hasn't released their 2015 program details yet, they are waiting for Delta to tell them what they are.

The only reason why DL has released pracrically no useful or relevant info about the 2015 SkyMiles program (namely, the vast majority of redeeming and earning details are still completely unknown, as are the award routing rules) to this date is because the changes are big, many, and very bad.
Note that by definition open jaws are allowed, perhaps even encouraged, under a system based on additive one-way pricing ...

Yes, of course, but to have three segments (A-B/B-C//D-A) it'll be three one ways (3x) vs RT (2x) pricing. But if it is just A-B//C-A, then yes two one-ways or RT works out the same. The loss is the third segment, be there an open-jaw on the stopover or just a regular stopover (or open-jaw on destination + stopover).

I just got nailed by this.

Used to be fine mixing and matching.

Now the phone rep says you can only do a stop over or an OJ, but not both! Also, no more double OJ's.
Sad

DL has prohibited double-open jaw awards for years. Are you thinking of United?

Once we have all one-way pricing you can double-open-jaw to your heart's content...

So if this is a "glitch", then I have two questions:

1. What caused this? i.e. what DL IT enhancement is going on? Can't possibly be fixing the award calendar.

2. Will this "glitch" ever be fixed?

On the phone with delta now, trying to make a change to an itinerary with a stopover. Just tryng to shorten my layover in CDG by changing to an earlier flight that has O3. They are asking for 50k more miles, and I think the system is splitting it into two tickets.

Currently going SFO-MSP-CDG-PRG / PRG-CDG-(stopover)-SEA-SFO

I suspect when I tried to change to the earlier PRG-CDG flight they broke it up into two trips. SFO-CDG round trip and CDG-PRG round trip. They just came back on the line though saying they realize it's wrong but don't know why it's procrssing like that. Back on hold now while they try to fix it.

Can't book award stopovers anymore online?

On award search engine now under multi-city:

To book an International Award Ticket that includes a stopover of more than 24 hours, contact a Reservation Specialist at 1-800-323-2323.

Nice to see a warning about it though. ^ to Delta for that.

Can someone please tell me how to search for a valid stopover? For example, LAX-MEL with stopover in Fiji. Is it possible? How would I search? Thanks much.

Every time I have even booked a DOMESTIC ticket with a stopover recently, all is good til the last step, then it says - Your reservation is on hold. Please call DL to ticket. So, you call, and they tell you it's now all booked in F, and it's 90,000 miles. I tell them it should be in Y, and 25,000. They check, and, of course it's all available. They fix it & it prices at 25,000.

It's happened a number of times. Anyone else?
