OP - take the earlier advice to document location, exact time, situation, airline-related transaction, etc. and most likely the person can be tracked, especially if any computer/phone interaction were involved.
Not really a law that they must tell you but if this was in a SIDA they should have had a badge on...
49 CFR 1542.205(b)(1) which refers to 49 CFR 1542.211:
(2) Procedures to ensure that each individual in the secured area or SIDA continuously displays the identification medium issued to that individual on the outermost garment above waist level, or is under escort

FWIW, I once had an issue with an employee over the phone. All I had was their first name, location, and of course "business" group. When I talked with a rep regarding my complaint they said that was enough information to go with.

OP never mentioned a badge, attempt to get a name from such, attempt from employee to obscure such.

And yes, I'm aware of SIDA badge regulations - can your personal Delta contact at SFO take you down to the ramp or otherwise behind the scenes w a SIDA E (escort) badge?

This gets at the very nature of the OP's question: it's vague, somewhat naive, poorly worded, and close to being silly. If you have you to ask this type of question, I have more concern regarding the questioner than the actual situation.

Average joe can't just walk up and ask to see your sida badge. Yes they must wear it but if it's flapping around and you can't read it and you ask to see it they can tell you to pound sand. If security, tsa, etc asked to see it then they must comply but not for pax just wanting their name.

Two comments.

1. The SIDA space is not where the customers are so this was almost certainly not in the SIDA.

2. By definition the Security Identification Display Area would require a displayed ID or an escort. This is actually a federal regulation under FAR 107.x

And I guess 3- let it go.

Also this. The gate area is the sterile area (which also has a different type of badge as well).

And yeah just let it go. Not really worth getting worked up over.

AFAIK, there is no law to prevent you from photographing people in public. Just ask any celebrity...

Some airports don't consider it public. E.g. San Diego. I just caution you to research ahead.

I'm curious to know what the employee did that was so offensive.

I'm also shocked and a bit disgusted to see that people would even consider taking a picture of the employee.

whoah, pictures, DYKWIA.... SIDA vs sterile?

Let me make this reallly simple.

If they are customer-facing, ask for a reprint of your boarding pass. It will imprint the airport, workstation, and enough of their login information so that DL can trace it back to the employee. If they rebooked you, their sine is part of your PNR.... if they gave you anything or did anything to your record.... the employees information is in your PNR.

Heck, I've had DYKWIAs who have asked for my full name and literally threw a tantrum when I wouldn't give them my last name. I told them that my information is all on their record and you can refer to me in your complaint as my first name and they will know who I am... as I'm the only one here with that name.
