If you're buying far enough in advance and meet the stay restrictions common to the most-deeply discounted UTXVE-bucket fares, one can see how spend-based earning would leave you with fewer redeemable miles in 2015, particularly if you have fairly long flights in price-competitive markets.

Now, ellis01, setting aside corporate policy

If you had a choice between :
(a) AMS-BOS-AMS Nonrefundable "S-fare" €1.533,59 (with all the requisite cancellation and change penalties)

or (b)
AMS-BOS-AMS Refundable "M-fare" (fully changeable/refundable to your form of payment, if necessary) and also can be upgraded (miles) €2.033,59

and the flights were currently not oversold/sold-out in BusinessElite, which would you choose?
For work, the first one, because I like keeping my job.

For personal flying, it would depends on a lot of factors. I tend to be frugal, and $500 in my bank is $500 extra in my bank. (and that's not a long-haul to me, as I often cover Asia-Pac) So, if I were tired from previous flights going into this, and needed the upgrade to work or get some rest, I might buy it. But likely, I'm banking that extra $500 and going with the cheaper fare.

Apologies if this has already been answered (such a long thread)...just wondering if once the 250k annual point transfer limit from American Express Membership Rewards applies per Amex account or Skymiles account? For instance, if I have 500k points could I transfer 250k to my Skymiles and another 250k to my wife's? And a follow-up to that, could we transfer points from one Skymiles to another?

Thanks!

Hi guys,

Two comments, just curious what others think about these sort of edge cases that affect some of us small-time flyers.

1) When you get MQM boosts via (eg) Amex cards, you should (in an ideal world, I mean) also get a corresponding boost in MQSs, shouldn't you? This really stings for guys like me who have lots of short hops.

2) If delta is going to track MQDs, why even bother with MQMs/MQSs at all? Just as an example, I have almost enough MQDs for platinum but I only have 31k MQMs right now (and 10k of those are from a card-based boost!). Shouldn't delta value me *more* than a guy who has spent the same amount yet consumed more fuel etc flying more miles?

so I just used their calculator to compares miles. I often take the sfo-jfk route and often get the base price at $300 RT. prior to the 2015 program, I get 10,344 as a gold medallion. after 2014, I get 2400.

Yes Delta, the 2015 changes helps out.

This is probably answered somewhere, but I can't find it.. If I book a trip Say TXL-ORD-TXL KL/AF Leaving TXL in Nov, and returning in Jan.. Will Jan miles post as $ Spent? Seems the BF on ORD-TXL is only $60 or so... This would be terrible

Is the SkyMiles program based on the calendar year or when you started collecting?

I started collecting SM October 2014 but it says, 2015 Status: SkyMiles Member.

Does that mean I can collect MQM or MQS from now till Dec 2015 to get a Medallion or till Oct 2015?

It's based on calendar year. You've got until 12/31/2014 to gain status and the the counter resets. Your redeemable miles continue to accrue year over year if you do not redeem them and there is currently no expiration of those miles.

IN FRONT OF GATE #53A LAX terminal accrosed from THE LEMONADE RESTAURANT!!! on November 7th, 2014. Marked as "THE MOST RIDICULOUS AIRLINES IN THE WORLD!!!"

The whole idea of tying status to the number of miles flown is pretty dumb in the first place if you think about it. Not sure how it ever got to be the standard but boy now that it's changing you sure get the crazies to come out of the woodwork.

I suspect Delta will act the way they normally act these days. No announcement. The charts will just change on January 1.
