Award Travel Changes

This afternoon, you’ll be able to see some updates to our Award Ticket charts on delta.com. To balance continued investments in products and services, we regularly evaluate Award pricing and adjust it periodically. Select redemption levels are changing for Award Tickets booked on or after November 8, 2013, for travel on or after February 1, 2014. You can continue to book Award Tickets for travel before February 1, 2014, at the current Award redemption levels.

Please review delta.com/charts for existing and updated mileage redemption charts by region and additional information.

Here we go!

This didn't take long from UA's announcement.

And comes very quickly from DL's last "update" to "Award Tickets charts."

That was fast. Not seeing the changes yet but I'm sure they won't be good.

"Regularly" = "pretty often, and as quickly as possible after the competition does same"

"Periodically" = "pretty often, and as quickly as possible after the competition does same"

Ridiculous. I'm sure we're about to see a re-devaluation from what was previously announced to align with UA. So much for the utility of SkyMiles (booking partner awards).

There's already a disconnect. The letter says "After Feb. 1", but the chart says "June 1". So which is it?

There were already changes effective June 1, 2014. So now DL is not even doing that and instead is doing a more massive devaluation effective immediately (for travel as of Feb 1, 2014)?

If DL follows UA's lead of punitive adjustments to partner redemptions, the program is over (given the paucity of availability on DL metal).

June 1 chart devaluation was announced a few weeks ago. But, it wasn't big enough or soon enough for DL, so now there is a more massive devaluation in effect as of today (for travel as of Feb 1, 2014).

I searched mid-Feb and see plenty 25k domestic but maybe it hasn't gone live yet and/or the dates are goofy?

Time will tell what's ultimately changed....

I wouldn't expect to see much in the way of domestic Y pricing. Think more international J on partners. UA just t'd off a bunch of elites, so DL felt they had to do the same. Aaaand to align with UA, the changes will take affect for bookings made after 2/14 - not travel after 2/14.

Nope. With United the new pricing doesn't take effect before February 1, 2014, and you can book as far as you can on January 31 at the old award levels.

Delta's new pricing is effective immediately for award flights past January 31, 2014.

Big difference.

That's the Delta away. They always have to be #1 in sc*ing over their customers.
