Thanks Chris for the really-real confirmation. While I'm sad the 752s are dropping 2-4 F seats, I appreciate the candor, the information and the engagement.

The 75N is the closest product Delta has to what the future looks like with this fleet. I am not a fan of the removal of FC seats, but seems like the 2 rows of EC would be a nice ride if stuck in Y, a lot quieter than the behind the L2 door.

That is good because I was not looking forward to that happening to me. Thank you.

I was thinking that too. Probably among the better Y class seats on DL, depending on what type of bulkhead they use and how much legroom is there.

Thanks for the info Chris. Very appreciated, even if we are harsh on some feedback

Other question... will the iport etpos 757s keep their higher ~40" pitch in F? Even though it is 'domestic' configured, the additional pitch really makes a big difference especially after flying for 12+hrs on a connection through NRT.

On a side note, I wonder if the reduction in F seats is because FCM isn't as lucrative as was initially projected? I would think that if F sell-up is doing well they wouldn't be reducing the number of seats. The only equip that is getting more is the A320, which is very meager at 12.

With Delta removing FC seats, I am wondering about the long term outlook for FCM.

David
Hey DiverDave...Either way you slice it -- the number of physical FC seats in our fleet or the number of seats available each day (with each plane operating multiple flights) -- Delta still offers more FC seats than any other carrier.

DL AA UA US
Mainline 573 616 647 341
Large RJ 295 94 163 110
Total 868 710 810 451

The numbers above were pulled from the most recent publicly available fleet data.

The 757s will be used for Asia beach markets, Hawaii and Caribbean markets, as well as some high density leisure markets. A slightly smaller FC cabin makes more sense for these missions.

So, which 757-200s will be remaining in the fleet (other than the 75Es)? Will it be the aircraft that I mentioned in my previous post built in 1995 or later (N686DA, N687DL-N699DL, ships 6700-6717 [N6700 to N67171], N900PC, and all of the ex-Northwest 5600 series)?

6700-6717

Hawaii
5635-5638

FC seat pitch on the 752D/H/I fleet will be 37".

+1, I really hope they keep their big pitch. In fact I was just discussing this with a friend about an hour ago. For three to four hours, they are very comfortable at 40" and I would hate to see that reduced for the same reason as stated above (12+ hour flight over, not fun to get shoved into a low-pitch seat).

Open letter to Chris_DeltaCustExp,

Your FT account will not allow replies to PMs. I do not want you think I am ignoring your note, so I have edited my response and made it an open letter, below:

Chris,

Your team has done you one better, and I'm not sure I can thank them enough. If you've read my follow-up posts, you can see where I gave kudos for having rebooked me to a NS on the WiFi equipped A320 to SFO. Truly amazing CS here!

As I noted, I'm vocal when I do not agree with some of the recent changes, but I must also give credit where credit is due; DL fully, and consistently, goes above and beyond when it comes to your customer facing employees!

Regards,
Pat

But Chris....removing 6 of 26 First seats on the 757X song aircraft is a 23 % reduction on aircraft that do a lot of ATL-LAX for example...I do buy discounted First and thats a huge reduction in seats for sale and leaves virtually none for upgrade......squeezing every available dollar this way degrades the medallion program. Some goodwill on Delta's part toward the integrity of the medallion program needs to remain....more and more of us are noticing that the greed factor is increasing...ruining the 757 First cabin in my opinion is a bad idea...

having a First seat bolted to the floor still affords the ability to sell it as First...or as economy...but once its been changed to economy it can only be sold as economy...

With more and more baby boomers retiring ..I think the demographic trend will be that they will want a better experience than coach in the years ahead.

The prototype is scheduled to enter mod in late 2014 and RTS in early-mid 2015...final mod schedule is still being determined.

I realize there is probably nothing I can say that will alleviate your disappointment regarding the slightly smaller FC cabin but hopefully the dramatic improvement in the overall experience aboard the entire 752 fleet will help to offset it.

No more inconsistent cabins, lavs, seats, IFE, etc. All 56 will benefit from entirely new cabins (similar to the BSI), AVOD with 11" screens in FC and 9" screens in EC/YC, full cabin power, new FC and EC seats (same as the 739 and 753), new LED lighting, new lavs and new galleys. The domestic and Hawaii a/c will also get live sat TV.

Wow that's quite a while! Seems like the mods to go down to 12F happened much more quickly.

Unless you are going to Saipan or Guam or Palau, you won't be on an interport 757 after a 12+ hour TPAC flight. Most of the NRT-GUM/SPN traffic is Japan O&D traffic anyway.

All the NRT-Asia flights (PEK, PVG, TPE, HKG, MNL, BKK, SIN) feature flat-bed Business seats.

The 75X is going from 26 to 20 First Class seats, not 16 F seats; a 6 seat (or a 23%) reduction). The other domestic 757s are going from 24 or 22F to 20F.

Well I frequent GUM and ROR, both of which are served by 752s. I see your point to an end, but it's not all O&D Japan stuff.
