Delta Sells Domestic F Cheaper Than Economy?

I don't normally book on Delta but I needed a one-way CLT>CMH on 4/15 and I saw F being sold for the same price as economy, and for some flights, few hundred dollars cheaper. Obviously I booked the one-way in First but I don't understand the rationale and I do realize it is regional F but still...?

Is this common with Delta? What could be the reason behind this?

If you want First Class, you should pay less for it?

As I mentioned in another post, I recently just changed a ticket from coach to F for $84--also into CMH....I wonder whats going on with that market in particular? Mine was not cheaper, but for $84, I was happy to have F confirmed, this was CMH to LAX!

Digging deeper into the exact fares being sold, you'd find the first class cabin ticket had more restrictions than the one they offered in coach. Happens a lot closer to flight time if they have unsold first class seats that they would rather sell to you for a discount than upgrade a Medallion for no income to Delta. The full-price coach seat, they figure, would otherwise chase you to look at another carrier, so they dangle a discount first class ticket as a carrot to keep your business.

Yes, that can be considered a way to screw the non-upgraded Medallions who bought all the deeply discounted coach fares.

There's a big thread on this. Search FCM

They also squeeze some last minute business flyers who are not allowed to buy F.

Seeing F sold for less than the current Y seat is what really rubs lots of people the wrong way with the whole FCM thing.

I usually fly United due to it being my work's preferred airline and I had LOTs of miles. Hubby and I are going on a vacation to Puerto Rico in May and found great flights in first using my miles on the way there. On the way back there was nothing reasonably available for award tickets. I checked with a few different airlines and for less than economy on UA I found first class tickets on Delta. It was a no brainer. I then found a great first fare round trip to Florida that I took last month on Delta in first. It was about $100 more than coach on Delta and a lot less than United.

Having had my first ever experience on Delta in domestic first, I can tell you that its a much better product than UA domesic first. Looking at flights now for an October trip to Florida and am checking Delta before United I'm hoping to find a low first class fare.

Next time use quotes when searching for a common or short word. "FCM" should give you many pages of results.

I sympathize. I've found the search function here just about useless.

What is the FARE CLASS associated with the F fare? Do not simply look at the price.

These "cheap" F fares are heavily restricted and are non-refundable, which is why they are less expensive.
