Involutary change & upgrade?

Due to a schedule change, I've been rebooked on a different flight.
I found out the flight is completely sold out, I was not able to select
a seat and the seat map is showing all seats are occupied in economy
with a few seats available in biz.
I check and found out DL is not selling any seats in economy or biz class
on my flight.

I am assuming that coach seats will free up once elite members are
upgraded. I have a bag to check. My question is when I check in at
the airport, will I find out righ away if my seat is in coach or biz?
And hence whether i have to pay the checked bag fee at check-in.
Also if I am upgraded to biz, would I be entitled to a refund of the
checked bag fee?

Do you have elite status on DL? If not, you should not expect to be upgraded or given a free bag. Since you are concerned about the fee for (apparently) the first checked bag, I would assume that you have no status on DL or SkyTeam. Do not expect to leapfrog elites on your new flight because DL kindly gave your a confirmed reservation on an otherwise full flight.

If you are elite, you might be upgraded according to the usual process and priority ordering rules.

Are you a Delta Skymiles medallion? You won't get an upgrade to biz just because coach is filled - they'll upgrade elites, then start bumping passengers with voluntary vouchers, then eventually involuntary vouchers.

You might be offered a voucher and an upgrade for the next flight out if YOU VDB, but pretty unlikely on your current flight.

Very strange that OP got bumped to a flight that was already sold out.
