2012 Purchase MQMs is back

Quote: someone on another page explained the rationale behind this as they don't care who buys the cheap seat, but without the cheap seats bought, the expensive seats cannot be sold, so it's like musical chairs, gotta fill the cheapies before raking in the cash.
Not at all true: they can set fares to increase over time, so anybody who buys at the last minute pays the high fare, whether or not any cheap fares were purchased. They aren't required to sell X number of cheap seats first.

However, they have an estimate of how many expensive seats they'll sell last-minute, so they want to sell the rest of the plane as cheap seats in advance rather than letting them fly empty.

No that's wrong. If the plane is wide open and the airlines aren't colluding there's no way they will maximize revenue by keeping the fare as High as they could if the plane were fuller

They can try to charge but if there are empty planes some airline will cave for an L fare equivalent.

To the folks at Delta -- this is a HUGE value-add for me, and would like to thank those that keep this moving, and helped keep me in plat for the last year.

Interestingly DL is valuing DM status 125k MQM at 12500$ by this calculation

I'm in for 10k. With some planning, hoping to stop a few MQMs shy of Diamond this year so this helps enormously. Diamond should be cake in 2013 with this sweetener!

Good promo. I am sitting on the sidelines. Ending the year with 49,976 MQMs as current GM ... with 25K before February, I will be GM again but for a year longer!

Medallion Qualification Miles Once Again For Sale — No “Mileage Run” Required!
Quote:
The good news is that — when compared to last year — the opportunity to purchase Medallion Qualification Miles has been extended by approximately a month. Last year, the period of time was at the end of November through December 15, 2011; whereas this year the period of time for this promotion is effective between November 15, 2012 and December 31, 2012 — triple the amount of time for you to purchase Medallion Qualification Miles.

The bad news is that the cost of each transaction has increased across the board by $100.00 as compared to last year.

Awful pricing especially considering last year. I certainly haven't seen any positive additions to the medallion perks, maybe they get their market research data from Neil Newhouse

Wow, first it was for charity.
Then last year DL decided to keep the money for themselves.
It was so successful last year they felt the need to raise the price even more!
