Delta Passenger Kicked Off Plane For Using F-Word

Robert Sayegh was flying back from his cousin's wedding on Sunday on a Delta flight, when, while complaining about a delay, he used the F-word to a fellow passenger and was promptly kicked off the flight,the Detroit Free Press reports.

The 37-year old Brooklyn man was en route from a cousin's wedding in Kansas City when he was taken off Atlantic Southwest Airlines Flight 5136 after complaining to a fellow passenger about a 45-minute delay.

When reached at home, Sayegh told the Free Press: "I was just kind of talking to the guy sitting next to me. I said 'What is taking so long?' I said "What the 'F' is going on?' I could see if I directed it at (the flight attendant), but I didn't even speak to him."

The flight, which was taxiing on the runway, turned around at Detroit Metro Airport and police boarded the flight to escort Sayegh off. "I couldn't even believe when they pulled up and the cops got on," Sayegh told the paper.

Sayegh claims he's sensitive to airline rules after his cousin died in 9/11, saying to the paper, "if anyone stood up on a plane, I would crush them."

Sayegh admits he was hungover on the flight, and denies that the F-word was directed at anyone. "I don't want to come off like I curse all the time. We use curse words just like adjectives. But the thing is, I never said it out loud towards him. He just happened to be right behind me," Sayegh says of the flight attendant.

"I wouldn't even start this type of thing unless I felt it deserved it," Sayegh said of calling local media while in Detroit waiting for his next flight."This is really, really ridiculous. This guy should not have a job in terms of dealing with people. It's ridiculous." Sayegh claims to be talking to his brother, a lawyer, about taking legal action.

An Atlantic Southwest Airlines spokeswoman told the Detroit Free Press that the airline is looking into the incident, adding "We apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused."

I would think it would take more than a few F-bombs to have a passenger taken off of a flight.

I wonder what the other half of the story is...as we know, there are always two sides to it...right or wrong. :rolleyes:

The guy seems like he is trying to get his 15 mins. of fame for acting like a jerk and being kicked off an aircraft.

I believe somewhere in the article he is quoted as saying that people in NYC talk like that, so what is the big deal... really?!

If the plane was taxiing at the time, I find it hard to believe that an FA (even if they were passing through the aisle) would pick up on a conversation between two people seated next to each other, let alone react to it.

"Hungover" = Drunk????
 

Yeah I wonder. He says he was hungover. I would love to hear another witness. How often do you hear how a drunk behaved & didn't remember much/well.

Probably a wise decision by the flight crew. Who wants to be caged in one of ASA's cigar tubes with someone like that?

I'll also bet that the reason he wasn't charged is that DL realized he mostly just needed a chance to finish sobering up. He should count his blessings.

Wow! Who would ever have thought that a Delta FA would overeact! (DRIP with sarcasm)

From now on I think everyone should DEMAND that a passenger be removed WHENEVER the F word is heard.

A question: Will Delta also remove CREW from a flight when they launch the F word?

I find a big difference in the "regional" partners and the mainline staff. So when you read the fine print and see that it is ASA, that adds new meanings. Just my $0.02 worth.

Btw I am from Brooklyn and using the F word has gotten me a lot from delta but I was on the ground still lol.

I was going to post this, but I didn't think it was worthy of it's own post, but I think I've found a home for this story . . .

I was flying a couple of weekends ago ATL/PIT 10:05 PM flight. 3 seats were open in F. Just before closing the door, the lead FA decided to UG 2 military guyz in camo. They didn't know each other. Me: 1C - 2 military guys 2B & 2D on an MD88. The 2 military guys were LOUD and borderline obnoxious! The one behind me used the ""F" word LOUD a few times talking clear across the aisle most of the flight to the other guy. They were telling very loud stories of what hot spots to go to in Kandahar and other places. People were trying to sleep! I knew their whole life stories before the 75 minute flight was up! One of them went into the bathroom - I went in after him, and he was the first one to use it after takeoff - - Let's just say that he left a wet mess all over! :mad: One was pounding drinks as soon as he found out they're free and totally ignored the FA announcements to turn off electronic devices during landing.

It really didn't bother me - it takes a lot to offend me, but I was VERY surprised that these guyz didn't have a little respect for the quiet - especially in F - on a late night flight!

Quite a few do, from my experiences.

I think that if the story is essentially correct, there was an overreaction by the FA. I'm not fond of the constant use of the word by some, but it hardly merits a return to gate. Of course they may have had other reasons.

Another egregious overreaction and rash snap judgment by the FA to remove the passenger from this flight.

Last week - I was on an ASA flight, where the FA's thought the person sitting next to me was "giving harsh looks" to the FA's. I was witness to this and the whole thing was an emotional overreaction to a non-event! The FA was a total joke.

These FA's are like teenagers who work in the sky who grossly misuse their "authority" by creating drama. With regards to the event I witnessed, it really was NOTHING at all. Just a shocking abuse of authority by the FA!

In reading this article, I keep asking myself, really?, who or what were at risk? In the end, the flight was delayed and passengers were inconvenienced due to an emotional snap judgment by the FA. What a nation of paranoid morons we've become!

I filed a report with Delta regarding the event that I witnessed. Hope the FA gets the boot for their public accusation of the passenger sitting next to me! The scene was drummed up entirely by the FA. If anything the guy sitting next to me should get some compensation for the jerk FA!

Yes, unfortunately, his behaviors is not tolerable during in-flight yesterday. He will have banned flying on DL for existence rest of the life. He could be arrested for that. He can't be inappropriate to using his language. This is zero tolerence policy. He have to stay in sobers for 8 hours without driving in the car or during in the flight. He could almost charges for interfering with the cabin crew. This is unacceptable for the behavior.
