Get back my silver status?

Hey all:

My Silver Elite status just ran out (literally today) and I was wondering if there is any leverage I could use to extend my status for another year or two without meeting the required MQMs or segments. I have flown quite a bit, so I am a regular customer, but not all my flight segments gave me MQMs.

I'll be flying even more this year and its nice to have a little leg up on most of the passengers for seat assignments and upgrades.

Probably a long shot, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Thanks!

I think the general consensus here has been that, with rollover MQM's, DL highly unlikely to give away status. Perhaps a quick long distance MR (SYD, HKG) would help and you could get close to FO in no time.

Good luck.

Maybe you should check out today's post from The Points Guy. http://thepointsguy.com/2011/03/how-...-elite-status/

Yes. You can earn 25,000 MQMs and you will get your status back.
ALL DL and DL connection flights earn MQMs.

Curious about flight segments that didn't give MQMs. There aren't many ways to have that happen domestically, and you'd have to be flying some odd partners internationally to not get MQMs (at least if you're US-based, since over the water you'll almost surely be earningn 100% MQMs).

Welcome to Flyer Talk! You'll find lots of great information and wisdom in the forums. Since it's your first post, I'm sure most will be gentle in their responses. ;)

Quick answer is, NO, it's not going to happen. If you want status, you either need to fly or jump through the hoops of some MQM promos (e.g. Amex credit cards).

Some quick advice as you get started:
First thing to do (before creating a new thread) is to read through thread titles for a similar question, statement, or something relative to your question. You may need to scan through a few pages (do a minimum of 5) before you find what you're looking for. Then, if you don't find the answer, use the search function in the forum. Most times the question has already been asked, debated, answered definitively, or options have been provided (as well as some entertaining opinions).

These two steps will help prevent the grief I think your post has unintentionally invited. The reason people give someone grief is because the poster has not done their due diligence by checking the Delta website for info (and we all know it's certainly not perfect or the Gospel) and then following steps one and two above. Saves a lot of unnecessary posts and responses.

Not trying to be mean or condescending in any way. Just trying to point you in the right direction as you get started. Again, welcome to FT and happy travels! :D

Here are some thread titles to help you with what you wanted to know:

Up until last summer (August maybe) some of the lower fares on AF, KL and other ST partners did not earn miles...glad they ended that restriction! :)

True. I'd assumed that those were almost exclusively for intra-Europe flights, but can't say that I'd ever gone and checked. (And we're still saddled with one KL fare class that doesn't earn: G. I really should nag at DL about fixing that, as then going to AMS on promo fares gets to be a nice deal.)

Don't hold your breath. If you are indeed flying quite a bit this year, consider a MR to get the status earlier.

Sad to say, but you haven't lost much as DL will most likely do away with Sliver soon, as GM has become Silver with the addition of DM and PM being in the middle.

Don't know why they would give it to you if you have not purchased enough tickets last year to make Silver for 2011.

I don't see DL dumping FO any time soon. The clearest indicator to me is that if they were going to drop it, they would not have made GM STE+. There's still value in priority seats and free bags (and the elite telephone line), so it's here to stay for the time being.

Fastest way id say is the Amex promo, i used it end of last year which boosted me to silver, then hit gold in dec, requalified for gold in jan and am on track for plat. It's the easiest fastest way to get that little leg up without flying.

There has been no indication they are getting rid of FO. It's here at least for another year, since it is 3/1 and there s still a Silver Medallion.

Other than not being able to board with other elite members (but still boarding before the masses) silver hasn't lost all that much. I am sure this will cause some to argue otherwise but silver still has a lot of value and all of the benefits it had before DM or SP was announced. DM just split the existing PM group into two, it didn't add a new population of folks who weren't already DL elites.

A mileage run is the easiest way to get back to silver. If you can combine it with a promo for a particular route you might be able to get there even quicker. Sign up for marketing promo emails from Delta in your dl.com profile to make sure you are aware of new promos that are announced.

I have also been known to make a mileage run out of a business trip. Instead of RDU-ATL-DEN I have gone RDU-ATL-PHX-SLC-DEN. It took all day but I doubled my MQMs. I pretty much lose a day of work to travel anyways so I got to the hotel at 11PM instead of 6 PM. Big deal.

I have even looked at RDU-JFK-LAX-SLC-DEN which added a thousand MQMs more but the fare was too costly. Did do DEN-SEA-JFK-RDU once on the return. It takes some planning but the MQMs add up quickly if you don't mind putting your butt to sleep on an A/C seat.

Not going to happen. DL won't have a published entry-level elite tier with twice the required MQMs/EQMs/PQMs/whateverQMs as the competition.
