Accomodations in HAV / La Habana and Cuba
Please share your recommendations for hotels, guesthouses in HAV and Cuba with us.

I went with an Episcopal church group, but we stayed in a Roman Catholic convent that had spacious, air-conditioned rooms, a lovely courtyard, and a decent continental breakfast. Hostal Santa Brigida in the Old City, equidistant from the Plaza Vieja and the Plaza San Francisco.

In Varadero the Xanadu is amazing and worth the money.

In HAV we had to stay 3 nights at the Habana Libre (booked cash + points with Melia for 50 CUC a room) but was nothing to write home about.
Incredible nice were then our 10 nights stay at Ydalgo´s penthouse. The penthouse is huge, has a small private pool and would be even in Miami Beach WOW!
Ydalgo, who is swiss-cuban and speaks english, french, german and schwyzerdeutsch, is the perfect host. He is renting out three rooms (40, 50 and 60 CUC), I recommend to take all three rooms.
Swiss, dutch and german tv already showed his place and in one of the next Wallpaper magazine´s there will be an editorial about his place. It can be really recommended.
