Smoking policy on Holland America
We will be cruising with HAL in July on the Prinsendam. We received this special notice today:
This is to advise that the smoking policy for ms Prinsendam will change as of
May 6, 2017. Consequently, we want you to be aware that your sailing will be subject to our revised smoking policy, which states that smoking will no longer be allowed on the verandahs of any guest staterooms or suites. There are designated outdoor smoking areas aboard ms Prinsendam and indoor smoking area is also set aside for active slot players in the Casino. Please refer to HollandAmerica.com for the full smoking policy. Thank you for your attention.
Not to start a war, but my wife and I are in favor of this change. Having someone smoking next to you a couple feet away, is regretful at the least and dangerous at the worst. The smell forces many to abandon their paid for balcony's.
I do not know if this is limited to the Prinsendam or part of a wider policy.

Agreed. I am one of those people that if anybody is smoking within 50 feet the smoke always magically heads straight to me.

About time. Not only a health hazard but a fire one too. I was on the Star Princess earlier this year, around the 10th anniversary of the fire - ignited by a smoker - that consumed quite a bit of the port side. My cabin was just aft of the burn zone.
The remaining smoking zones on HAL ships, other than in the casino, seem to be on the pool deck, unfortunately near some bars/food outlets.
