I've had good luck with this site.
After you get signed on, select their 90 day specials.
I like to compare by dollars per day. There are instructions as to how to do that, and then sort on that column. The best goodies are right at the top of each cruise area.
You also can do a more sophisticated selection, picking dates, departure ports, etc.

www.cruisedeals.com
Try www.cruisedeals.com
Like their Facebook page so you can receive their deals as posted: https://www.facebook.com/friends/req...#!/cruisedeals
Cruisedeals specializes in deals, often last minute, regardless of your desired cruise line (cheaper end would be --MSC, Carnival, or Royal Caribbean but we found a really good deal on the Princess Ruby in the Caribbean) or destination. They have the 24/7 call center where the expert helped us make a decision after we shopped on their website.

Not knowing anything about you, other than you've never been on a cruise and want something cheap, I would recommend a seven-day cruise out of Florida/Houston/New Orleans to the Caribbean.
The seas are generally quite smooth, and the island culture probably fits in pretty well with your preconceptions of what a cruise would be about.
You should also consider the personalities of the various cruise line options, and how they fit in with your own personality. Carnival cruises are generally priced quite inexpensively, for example, but there's a reason why they call themselves "the fun ship" -- it's a party atmosphere. Think more Passenger Newlywed Game than talks on oceanography or history.
The odds are very high that if you try one, you'll really like it – most people who try cruising find out they really like it; few people go on exactly one clues during their life.
After you've been on a certain cruise line, they will barrage you with offers by email with very good fares for returning passengers. If you get to that point, and determine you really like cruising, then some of the best bargains this time of year are transatlantic repositioning cruises that take about two weeks to go from Florida to Europe stopping in five or six ports along the way; Princess is currently running some for about $42 per day, plus gratuities for the staff. (Don't skimp on the gratuities --pay the recommended amounts; those folks work hard and are away from home for months at a time)

The following linked website / spreadsheet is what we used to track & review historical pricing changes on cruises - across different lines and ships, by travel dates & itinenary.
Hightlight a fare category by row & column, and you will see historical price changes - going back 2 years as you plan ahead for 2015. Being at a homeport, we hunt for last minute bargains - lately, we've seen truely last minute availabilities on select sailings up to 3 days before embarkation, as they are often sold out weeks in advance, literally just pack and go.
The frequent cruisers on Cruise Critic that we've met over the years have all sailed on the same itinerary and some don't even bother getting off the ship in port - just head for the spa and half-empty pool or sundeck while the rest are fighting for a spot on the beach without shades, LOL.
The discounts offered are nearly the same for AARP, military and repeat customers sailing with the lines - the key to getting more is finding those OBC's and combining it with stockholder's perks (extra OBC that can be used with other bonuses)

Have fun - narrow down your choices and go to price comparison on the lines' website, major online TA and discount websites, and, of course, have your own "friendly" TA match the offer.

Carnival Sunshine is value
Cheap is a relative term....You get what you pay for but surprisingly there is value in the Carnival Sunshine which we just sailed on.
Its just been re-launched with refurbishments that have the feel of Royal Caribbean or NCL but with more laid back atmosphere:
-Serenity lounge on pool deck for adults only. There is no reservation or cost for the covered lounges.
-lots of specialty restaurants. 24/7 food options.
-live music in multiple venues of small (Havana Lounge) to large (disco).
-main stage entertainment is Broadway quality.
-Lido deck marketplace cafe has the light wood and decor.
The itineraries are interesting from 5-7-8 days in the Caribbean: http://shop.cruisedeals.com/cs/forms...paign=sunshine
The Port Canaveral departure was cheaper to fly into than Miami.
It would make for a value, low cost 1st cruise.

Certain times of the year are generally less expensive to cheap. After New Years, before Memorial Day, after Labor Day, November thru mid December.
I generally book in the eleventh hour. I just booked one yesterday for 5/18-5/27 aboard Celebrity Summit NYC to Bermuda. I booked a large suite a half price. I saved $3K, yes $3K!
BTW, try to book with some TA that gives you rewards to your airline miles account. I always book with SkyMiles Cruises, great rewards for me...

Just found a 5 Night Royal Caribbean cruise for $227pp (I think you can bring a third and fourth person for free in the same cabin; not positive though.)
Not sure how long it will be on there but figured I would share it:
