Datapoints:
There is a $90 AF and one cannot earn the 90K in one year unless one does $25K spending.
Best way to add to initial purchase bonus of 20K is to add AUs (and quite a few of them, too!).

Thanks! It worked for me and my significant other! I froze Experian (because way too may apps since February between Citi and American Express) and when I called the Spanish # I asked if they could pull Equifax and they had no problem! I just played dumb and was like "oh, yeah my Experian is frozen right now, but I know my Equifax is fine. Would you be able to pull that?"

I'm going to be using the miles either other Hawaiian Airlines or Delta! After looking at the partners, it's not that bad of a deal. So $24k in 6 months? I can do that :-)

was just approved on this by freezing the experian... i'm in NYC and experian seems to be all anyone pulls, so this was a nice surprise! Tried to get them to pull equifax since i have zero on there, but they pulled Transunion instead.

I'll have to toss BofA cards in the mix a bit more often... now to figure out how to best redeem these miles...

read up on the freeze before you do it... I'm not 100% on the freeze/unfreeze rapidity that one is allowed.

Just to confirm, if I have 25,000 miles in my Virgin Atlantic account can I book a 25,000 mile award seat on Delta (if the award seat is available)?

EDIT: Found the answer online. Here's the chart.

I joined their FF program, applied and was instantly approved. I didn't get to read much of the approval text, though, because it sent me to the Virgin home page fairly quickly, and you couldn't go back. That's just bad programming.

Same thing happened to me. Except I ended up applying a 2nd time because I went back to my history, pulled up the application status page and there was a message that an error had occurred due to the site or server not being available. On my second my application, after pressing the Apply button it started processing and when it was done, again it went straight to the Virgin Atlantic website. So I went back to my history tab and tried to retrieve the status page but it too gave me an error message. So I decide to go the Bank of America application status website to see if my application had somehow gone through. Well apparently both applications went through, one was approved and the other is pending review. Hope I only get hit with one inquiry.

Long-haul Virgin Atlantic in Upper Class for 100K points plus US$1,200-1,450 or so in fuel/taxes is a pretty good deal. That's effectively about $1,500 or less after the $90 annual fee for one of the best premium cabin/seat/lounge combinations in the world.

Heh. You know you play this game a lot when you have trouble keeping track of which cards you've had.

Applied & got a pending.

The 1800# I have for a BOA Credit Analyst is apparently no longer in service. Anyone have a direct #?

Enjoy, everyone.

Oh man, to anyone new at the game, I recommend keeping a spreadsheet in Google docs or wherever telling you what cards you have applied for, when you got them, when the annual fee is due, when you cancelled it.

I don't do that, I keep regretting it, and I am always kind of guessing at some of this stuff.

I do calendar reminders to myself on when to cancel the card. I also keep a document in the cloud with the card numbers and phone numbers for my current card in case one or all of them get lost/stolen. I also keep all the expired cards tied up with a rubber band, just so I can flick through them and see what ones I used to have.

Kind of a funny thought -- fifteen years ago, before I started the credit card game, I applied for a casino gaming license in my state. The investigation and application process is quite intensive, and they ask you for every conceivable financial record, to make sure you are not mobbed up and whatnot.

One of the things they ask you for is a listing of every credit card you have had in the last 5-10 years plus copies of all the statements. I shudder when I think about what I would do if I had to try to collect and provide that info now.

Anyway, I just got approved for this Virgin Atlantic card. I then called in to activate and asked the bonus on the card, and rep confirmed the 20k + 50k bonuses.

From my stack of credit cards with the rubber band, it looks like I had the AMEX version of this card not too long ago. My frequent flyer account records showed I got a 45000 bonus in August 2013, I think I got the AMEX in July. Then they sent me the new Mastercard when it switched over to mastercard, but I cancelled it without activating the new mastercard. That happened some time between December and April.

It looks like the deal is churnable, but that might be because I never activated the prior mastercard that they sent me 6-9 months ago and only ever used the AMEX.
