This thread is a continuation of the discussion posted here from 12.08.2012 - 5.13.2014: Barclays Arrival/Arrival Cards (1.05%/2.1% travel credits)

Current offer for Arrival Plus is 70K pts w/$5K spend & AF waived 1st year.

Barclays says that you earn “miles” but you’re actually earning cash back with the card since you can’t transfer your Barclays miles to airlines. But you can redeem them for statement credits at 0.5 cents per mile (poor value) or 1.05 cent per mile if you redeem for travel.

You get 5% of your miles back if you redeem for travel, so 40,000 miles gets you $400 towards travel and 2,000 miles back (5% of your miles back). You must have at least 10K 'miles' in your acct if you wish to redeem as a travel credit. 2500 'miles' can be redeemed for a stmt credit though.

If you want, you can redeem miles to cover a portion of a travel charge instead of the full amount. For example, if you have 80k miles and a $740 airline charge, you can choose to redeem just 70k to cover $700 of the charge.

You earn 2X miles on all purchases, so you’re effectively getting 2% cash back for each purchase. But since you get 5% of your miles back when you redeem for travel, this is effectively a 2.1% cash back card when miles are redeemed for travel.

This makes the Barclaycard Arrival PlusTM World Elite MasterCard® (with 2.1% cash back for travel) better than the Capital One Venture card which offers only 2 miles per $1 or 2% cash back, only if you spend $30k+ per year after first year, because Arrival Plus AF is $30 more than Venture.

If you receive a call from 302-255-8000 after applying for this or any other Barclay's card, it is a legit number! You can also call them back directly at 866-951-1437.

Call customer service and the first csr who probably works with dozens of cards said no, not available. I asked to speak to a manager who also claims not available. But then I said okay send me the re-designed card and we'll see what happens. Don't understand why one person can get a chipped card and somebody else can't. (Of course she told me that all cardholders would have a chipped card by October 2015 but I told her that's a year and a half away).

We'll see what happens but is there anybody here who has the Arrival World Mastercard, not the elite mastercard, with a chip?
I do not have the World Mastercard and mine has a chip that works for PIN transactions overseas. My MC logo is not silver.

Problems redeeming

Has anyone experienced technical problems redeeming recently? I've been trying for the last couple of days, using different browsers, but my redemptions are not going through. Thought I'd check in here before calling. Thanks.

How long until your statement credit shows up on your online statement?

I did one for $25 a few days ago, and the 25K rewards points were deducted, but the $ amount due on my statement hasn't changed, and under "activity since last statement" it says "no activity".

Any concern over the revised T&Cs we all got in the mail recently? Specifically refering to the credit information section:

We are updating the "Credit Information" section of your Cardmember Agreement to notify you that we may, from time to time, obtain employment and income data from third parties to assist us in the ongoing administration of your account.
I will readily admit I don't read all the T&Cs of my cards, but I assumed this was already being done. Wonder what this change is...

I had a weird experience applying for this card. I applied last Wednesday and have been checking the application status almost daily since then. This morning it says I was declined. I Googled the recon number and called it and as soon as the guy pulled up my application he said he had to transfer me to the account security team. I spoke with the guy from account security who asked me the same questions that were on the application I filled out but he also asked some weird side questions related to them. When he asked my birthdate he also asked "so how old does that make you?" After he asked for my address he asked "what is the nearest cross to that address?"

Not sure what the heck happened with my application that caused this to happen. In any case, as soon as he was done his questions and weird related questions he said I was approved with a $15,000 CL.

I have a Barclay's Arrival card and want to cancel before the annual fee post in October. I got the card last year and got the bonus $400 toward travel or $200 statement credit. I don't intend to travel anytime soon, is there any hotels or car rental places (or any place that are categorize at travel) that sells giftcards so i can redeem my bonus for full value.

I prefer store giftcards like BBY, Macy, etc.

If you stole someone's birthdate, you might not immediately know what age that worked out to. If you stole their address, you may have no clue the nearest cross-street.

Why did you get the card? Your best bet might be paying for someone else's travel expense, having them pay you back, and then redeem that. You can look over the list in the wiki for charges that can be redeemed as travel.

I know that, but what would lead them to believe this was the case? That's what I'm curious about.

Most of our profiles fit what might appear to be ID theft victims. Many people do not open 10 or 20 credit card accounts a year

Surely most people (and determined ID thieves) can subtract numbers and plug a street address into Google Maps...

You probably just had a high IDscore. IDscores are fairly non-sensical. They store things like IP addresses used on previous apps, email addresses, phone numbers, etc.

So if you applied from your home computer with IP X and then later apply from a mobile device on LTE with IP Y, your app gets assigned a higher risk score. If a bunch of these factors add up to some threshold, your app gets held for security purposes.

Just redeemed miles for purchases made with American Airlines award telephone booking. It's nice getting our flights covered by AAdvantage miles, and the taxes / fees covered by Arrival miles!
