This thread is a continuation of the discussion posted here from 12.08.2012 - 5.13.2014: Barclays Arrival/Arrival Cards (1.05%/2.1% travel credits)

Current offer for Arrival Plus is 70K pts w/$5K spend & AF waived 1st year.

Barclays says that you earn “miles” but you’re actually earning cash back with the card since you can’t transfer your Barclays miles to airlines. But you can redeem them for statement credits at 0.5 cents per mile (poor value) or 1.05 cent per mile if you redeem for travel.

You get 5% of your miles back if you redeem for travel, so 40,000 miles gets you $400 towards travel and 2,000 miles back (5% of your miles back). You must have at least 10K 'miles' in your acct if you wish to redeem as a travel credit. 2500 'miles' can be redeemed for a stmt credit though.

If you want, you can redeem miles to cover a portion of a travel charge instead of the full amount. For example, if you have 80k miles and a $740 airline charge, you can choose to redeem just 70k to cover $700 of the charge.

You earn 2X miles on all purchases, so you’re effectively getting 2% cash back for each purchase. But since you get 5% of your miles back when you redeem for travel, this is effectively a 2.1% cash back card when miles are redeemed for travel.

This makes the Barclaycard Arrival PlusTM World Elite MasterCard® (with 2.1% cash back for travel) better than the Capital One Venture card which offers only 2 miles per $1 or 2% cash back, only if you spend $30k+ per year after first year, because Arrival Plus AF is $30 more than Venture.

If you receive a call from 302-255-8000 after applying for this or any other Barclay's card, it is a legit number! You can also call them back directly at 866-951-1437.

As it turns out, I couldn't figure out a way to make it work for me. The offer is supposedly until December, but my Pro account is good until February. Cancelling my Pro only cancelled renewal. So no luck. I'm already transitioning to WorldMate, so no biggie

They'd like to know if cancelling their tripit pro (essentially downgrading to the free version) will allow them to apply the free year offer.

As far as reapplying for a new A+, that's not going to affect whether or not the link is going to work since that's handled on the tripit side.

Organizes travel itineraries for you. That's basically it.

TripIt Pro is supposed to tell you of schedule changes, and flight delays on the day of travel (but there are stories of inaccurate delay reports). GateGuru can be used in conjunction with free TripIt to get gate assignments for your itinerary, and they also posted delays when it came up for me.

I can cancel it before applying for the A+ at a later date with a higher bonus. For now, I like having a no AF card with chip & pin.

I redeemed massively before the deadline, but I can confirm as of November 17th - with my card - it is 5% miles back on redeeming miles.

If you go to their website they have a 2 - 3 minute video that describes what it does.

While others may find it useful, I don't see a great benefit myself unless you travel a whole lot and have a lot of itineraries to juggle.

In retrospect, $200 ain't enough compensation for the headache of dealing with Barclaycard and their "rewards" program.

I've found it to be useful at telling me when a flight is delayed. It always tells me at least 15-20 mins before I receive the text notification directly from the airline. Also it supposedly will check flights for price drop. I haven't really had a lot of luck with that since it won't necessarily tell you if there is a cheaper flight that leaves later that day. It only checks the exact flight you bought.

The biggest convenience to me of services like TripIt and WorldMate are how easy they make it to organize itineraries. Simply forward reservation emails and they show up in their site/apps, providing easy access to travel information, notification alerts for flight info, etc. If you are the organized type they are amazing services. If you aren't, probably wouldn't be interesting to you

I got my card this February, but didn't activate a TripItpro before Barclays removed the link and told me I'm late. My wife got the card in July. Both we didn't receive a link for tripit pro. Strange, because it seems that all cardholders got it.

But does it accurately and timely handle schedule changes?

Yes, in my experience. I think free version did it sure. I switched to TripCase, free and i like the interface better than Tripit , which hasn't seen update in quite a while.

As I mentioned just a few posts up, TripIt would alert me to changes several mins before the airline would.

AF just posted and have some purchases, including a travel purchase, to make in order to apply most of the points balance to that travel purchase before closing the card. I'll be applying for the no fee card a few months from now for most of the A+ benefits, and $25 min redemption vs $100 on A+ come next August, and the $200 sign up bonus vs $0 for only downgrading.

Just want to verify: The points generated by purchases in the final statement cycle, and the redemption against travel expenses, are not affected by closing the account AFTER the redemption has been completed (no unwinding of that redemption)?

The risk of not getting the A- is not enough reason to pay the A+ AF or downgrade to the A- and lose the $200 sign-up bonus on the A-. Since I'm way over the 5 inquiry limit in last 2 years that Chase now demands to approve new accounts, one more app for the A- in the near future won't be an issue.
