This thread is a continuation of the discussion posted here from 12.08.2012 - 5.13.2014: Barclays Arrival/Arrival Cards (1.05%/2.1% travel credits)
Current offer for Arrival Plus is 70K pts w/$5K spend & AF waived 1st year.
Barclays says that you earn “miles” but you’re actually earning cash back with the card since you can’t transfer your Barclays miles to airlines. But you can redeem them for statement credits at 0.5 cents per mile (poor value) or 1.05 cent per mile if you redeem for travel.
You get 5% of your miles back if you redeem for travel, so 40,000 miles gets you $400 towards travel and 2,000 miles back (5% of your miles back). You must have at least 10K 'miles' in your acct if you wish to redeem as a travel credit. 2500 'miles' can be redeemed for a stmt credit though.
If you want, you can redeem miles to cover a portion of a travel charge instead of the full amount. For example, if you have 80k miles and a $740 airline charge, you can choose to redeem just 70k to cover $700 of the charge.
You earn 2X miles on all purchases, so you’re effectively getting 2% cash back for each purchase. But since you get 5% of your miles back when you redeem for travel, this is effectively a 2.1% cash back card when miles are redeemed for travel.
This makes the Barclaycard Arrival PlusTM World Elite MasterCard® (with 2.1% cash back for travel) better than the Capital One Venture card which offers only 2 miles per $1 or 2% cash back, only if you spend $30k+ per year after first year, because Arrival Plus AF is $30 more than Venture.
If you receive a call from 302-255-8000 after applying for this or any other Barclay's card, it is a legit number! You can also call them back directly at 866-951-1437.

Have a question about the Arrival+ card - can the 40,000 bonus points be applied to a travel purchase used to meet the minimum $3,000 spend?
Let's say within the first 90 days, I use the card to purchase a $2,000 airfare and $1,000 in miscellaneous (non-travel) expenses and get the 40,000 bonus points. Can I use those 40,000 points (plus the points earned from the purchases, 6,000 I think) for a statement credit towards that $2,000 airfare?
I can't find anything in the fine print that says you couldn't, but just want to make sure.

The redemption is at $25 incremental but it would not show all the $25 increment online, rather the amount that is closest to the full amount that is dividable by $25, and a few levels below that.
If you use the 46000 to redeem against the $2000 airfare, it might not show you the option, but you can always call to request manual redemption. Also once you redeem against it, you lose the redeemable item.
So if you could save more to redeem, it would work better for large amount redemption.

Update: Received denial letter which stated:
"Sufficient credit is available on your account issued by Barclays Bank Delaware."
So my current Arrival+ account (and all other Barclay cards are indicated too) resulted in the denial. I will call on Monday to see about how to get the no fee card without just downgrading and thus losing the 20k signup bonus.
Result: Barclay has directly encouraged the cancellation of the Arrival+ so that some time will pass in order to improve chances of getting the no fee card and [hopefully] the $200 sign up bonus.
Just by coincidence, I also got the annual fee reminder letter which first reminded me, in much larger font, benefits that I would give up (many of which are also available on the no fee version). Only the chip and 2% on everything vs 2% only on travel (1% elsewhere) are the main advantage on the Arrival+.
Reminders in that letter:
Redemptions can be done only against travel charges within 120 days and only starting at (and NOT mentioned: in multiples of) 2,500 ($25). So if the account is closed or not in good standing (inactive, late payment, etc?), any points below a remainder of 2,500 are lost because they can't be redeemed. I verified this recently by not being able to use the full points even though the travel purchase exceeded them.
"An Annual Fee will bill on your account on January 30, 2015. To avoid paying the Annual Fee, you MUST call us at 866-558-1107 by 5:00 p.m. ET on January 30th, 2015 to close your account. If your account is enrolled in a rewards program, any outstanding reward points or miles on your account may be forfeited at the time the account is closed."
I recall reading somewhere that it was illegal to not provide a grace period after an annual fee is billed, so I am surprised by this language.
This statement is also in direct conflict with my phone conversation with a rep last week. He flatly stated that I had 30 days AFTER the fee posting date of 1/30/15 to decided whether to close the account to avoid that fee!
"There is a Transaction Fee of the greater of $10.00 or 5.00% of the amount of each purchase of money orders, travelers' checks, lottery tickets, gambling chips or wire transfers"
Worth also mentioning is the "cash equivalents" definition that Barclay has on their web site:
"“Cash Equivalent” means the use of your Card or account number to obtain money orders, traveler's checks, foreign currency, lottery tickets, gambling chips, wire transfers, person to person money transfers (including but not limited to transfers facilitated over the internet), or the use of your Account to open a deposit account or to transfer value to a stored value card at a location or through a merchant other than a financial institution and any other transaction that MasterCard, Visa and/or American Express (as applicable to your Account) may designate as a Cash Equivalent. Cash Equivalents and the Transaction Fees associated with any Cash Equivalent are considered Cash Advances for interest calculation purposes."
so those who purchase money orders or other "cash equivalents", including "any other transaction ..." should take into account the potentially substantial fees for these type of transactions even if they do manage to generate points.
Hope this helps.

In fact Barclays is the fairest bank which bills the AF on the last business day of the month which the new year starts. Chase on the other hand, bills you on the FIRST day of the month.
2) Nothing new to those languages. I dont know of any one can buy a MO with a CC. You must know something others dont because you keep give those "warnings". Among all the items mentioned, probably only using it to fund a deposit to open a financial account would be possible with credit card. All the other activities mentioned, essentially is not possible to perform with CC.

...to transfer value to a stored value card at a location or through a merchant other than a financial institution...
For some this may limit their activities, for others it won't. In any event, the guy is right.

Jamie Dimon once asked an analyst if he'd rather keep their $ at Chase or UBS, to which the analyst replied UBS. Jamie's response was - that's why I'm richer than you. To those that choose to adhere to all bank rules I'd say - that's why I have more miles than you.

1) you should SM Barclays to get a WRITTEN clarification on how long you have to get the AF refund if you cancel the card. This way you then no need to make an interpretation on their letter which is standard for their fee-based card. But in all reality, many, including myself, got written confirmation on the annual fee would be refunded if card is canceled within 60 days after fee is billed. US card is 60 days per written response. No idea on A+ as mine does not come up anniversary until next year. No reason for me to find out the details now.

Although about a debit (not credit) card, you recently stated:
"Tons of folks bought MOs with ST Delta debit cards and earn miles".
Sun Trust plugged that hole, most likely because of their gaming that system. Even payments of visa bills using the debit card no longer generate air miles. Extremely fortunate though, ST DMC continues to generate airmiles for tax payments (as they should IMO) despite a few other banks disqualifying those payments for airmiles/points. This is a huge deal for those who pay lots of taxes due to $3 max fee vs 2% to pay online.
My public service announcement <g> was, as also stated, really about purchasing cash equivalents (including money orders, if possible). This has been the bread and butter of MS for those who were/are aggressively pushing the "cash equivalent" prohibition language envelope in many bank account terms, especially when they used to be able to use CCs and buy reloadables at Home Depot for 5x points. This language will get more severe directly because of this minority's excessive use of this grey area and has already swept in GCs that are actually only usable for goods and services - a sad side effect.

Yes, you can use the 40K for whatever you see fit. There is no differentials on the 40K deposited into your reward account.

Most of the confusion about Barclay Arrival+, BofA Travel Rewards and other banks FAKE airmiles award programs would be eliminated if they just corrected their very misleading language.
bottom line: these are statement credits that are even less useful than regular statement credits since they are RESTRICTED to redemption against travel expense, and not even just to flights, and have NOTHING to do with airmiles. Losing 50% to convert directly to cash or spending on inflated price catalog items also has nothing to do with "airmiles".

Has anyone had any luck redeeming point toward Disneyland, Sea World, or other theme parks in Southern California? How did you do it? Will buying tickets through an online travel agency work?

If you could buy your package thru online travel agency it might become automatically redeemable. Else you can always try manual redemption by calling.

Even a nicely summarized post saves many heartbeats for many readers - a solid benefit. That's why demand continues for summary tables. Yes, a source acknowledgment would have been appropriate. There might have been other sources too.

I have just applied and gotten approved from the Barclays and am moving from Amex Gold Premiere to the BWE for the following reasons (may help some).
The AMEX Premiere Gold is now sucking. If you are a moderately big spender (we average around 75k a year on the AMEX alone), AMEX Gold took away the bonus 15k points after you spent 30k. You only got 2x points on gas and grocery (and as an electric car owner, the gas thing doesnt do me much good). We fly almost exclusively Delta, and now that Delta gives no mileage transfer bonuses, we really only get slightly better than 1 penny per point.
With the BWE card, we start at 2.2 after the bonus redemption. But since we are paying for airfare WITHOUT AWARD POINTS, we also accrue airline miles and status points. This would generally push the point value up to 3 cents per point. Which is quite an improvement from what I was getting from AMEX at a cost of $200 a year (with supplemental card). Plus, I LOVE the flexibility in redeeming the cost of a travel expense POST charge.
