late notification from US bank

I found this thread after receiving a letter from US Bank yesterday informing me for the first time of the $2000 quarterly cap on purchases eligible for the 5% bonus. I had previously been informed about the limit on $25 bonus gift card, but not the changes to the 5% rewards which to me is a much bigger change. Had I known, I would have loaded up last quarter on my charities purchases and I would have chosen different categories this quarter. How can they tell me for the first time in late July of a change apparently effective July 1? How did others learn of this change?

Just spoke to a US Bank agent who said my account was not capped at $2000 per quarter, that that was only for newer accounts, even though the letter to me said otherwise. I guess I'll find out for sure once I exceed $2000 in my quarterly category expenses.

That would be big news...

The best agents seldom work nights or weekends. I would ask again during normal business hours.

I just spoke with a customer service rep on the phone today, and she stated that the cap would be effective for existing members 12 months after they applied for/upgraded to the Cash+ card. Hopefully that's true, and will give me another couple of quarters with uncapped earnings.

But overall, I'm quite disappointed at the degradation in benefits here.

I wrote to them about something else (MCC for Charity to be precise), and their reply including, in passing:

Also, silver6054, please be aware that with your U.S. Bank Cash+ Card, you earn 5% cash back on your first $2,000 in net purchases (purchases minus credits or returns) each quarter on the combined two 5% categories you choose

And I have had the card since Nov last year.

The email used my name in many many places, to make it oh so personal. But, sadly, my name appears in a different font from the rest of the email, making it look extremely tacky.

I am ashamed to bring back such an old thread but I was hoping Cash+ folks could help me out with my rewards. Here is what my Rewards History looks like:

04/02/2014 BEST BUY *** $2,059.50 Pending
04/02/2014 5% / 2% CASH+ CATEGORY $2,059.50 Pending
03/06/2014 Bonus-Grocery, Electronics, Charity $2,000.00 $80.00
03/04/2014 BEST BUY *** $2,059.50 $20.60
03/04/2014 5% / 2% CASH+ CATEGORY $2,059.50 $82.38
02/07/2014 New Account Spend Bonus $2,059.50 $100.00
02/07/2014 BEST BUY *** $2,059.50 $20.60
02/07/2014 First Use Bonus $2,059.50 $0.00
02/07/2014 5% / 2% CASH+ CATEGORY $2,059.50 $82.38
01/29/2014 Enrollment Override $0.00 $0.00

What exactly is the "Bonus-Grocery, Electronics, Charity"? That seems like something extra that maybe doesn't belong on there?

I see that "Bonus" line in my history when my statement closes -- each individual transaction shows whether it is eligible for the 5%/2% category, but with each statement period there is a single "Bonus" line item which contains the total 5% bonus for that statement period. So I presume it's just the aggregated total of category bonuses for that month -- up to the quarterly limit ($2000).

Correct. You get a total combined bonus when the statement closes. The total extra bonus is 4% of the $2000 which is $80.

I'm interested in this card, but it requires a in-branch application. I don't have any of these banks in my area. Does anyone know if there's a residency requirement? Can I apply in a branch in another state and be approved? One other thought - if I apply for another U.S Bank card online, is it possible to convert the the Cash+ card later on?

Sometimes. Check the USBank retention thread. My wife was able to convert a FlexPerks card, I was not.

I signed up for the flexperks during the olympics in February. I converted it to a Cash+ sometime this summer.
