Let's crowd source things that have counted towards travel redemptions that are not so obvious
Successful
Successful - Plus Only
Unsuccessful (please mention the amount redeemed - important as anything under $25 cannot be reimbursed)
Don't forget travel purchase needs to be > $25 charge for 2,500 mile redemption
Partial redemptions are possible - however you cannot redeem against that charge again. So if you have a $500 charge and you spend 40K points against it, you cannot redeem 10K points for the remaining $100 of that charge.

If you just want to get cash back to help with the cost then the Chase Sapphire Preferred would give you around $400 or 40 k and if both you and wife get it that doubles it. Just my 2cents

Looks like Barclay may be trying to compete with Freedom and Citi with its quarterly bonus. I just got an email which states:
" Between October 1 and December 31, 2013, earn 5 bonus miles for every $1 you spend with your Barclaycard Arrival™MasterCard®—up to 2,500 bonus miles—for everyday purchases in the following categoriesą:
• Gas Station purchases
• Restaurant purchases
(including fast food)
• Department, Toy or Game store purchases
Best of all, this is in addition to the miles you already earn for using your card every day.
You must activate this offer by October 20, 2013 to earn your bonus miles."
Unfortunately, this appears to be limited to 2500 bonus miles, so $500 in spending. But that's on top of the 2x points on all purchases so 3500 points for $500 of easy spending. $500 spending in these categories doesn't even require extra effort. My quick math says that's worth about $42. I'l take it!

Got the same email today. Sounds like some of the major cards are trying to make sure people use them for their Christmas shopping!
I really love this card, honestly! Sooooo convenient for me recently - covering car rentals, hotels, award flight taxes, etc.. It's becoming my go to card. Wonder if I'll be able to get another one next year like the US Airways cards? Suppose at least the no-annual fee version should be easy.

Help on this please.! I was targeted for 5X for Barclay/Arrival. So Ax/Target load for 500 at Target won't work? If not, does anyone know if WM is definitely considered "Department store" and if they sell $500 GC? PM if you would rather.... tia

Too many recent applications for credit (recent being 12 months or more).
Too many recently opened accounts.
Sufficient credit (you already have 2 or more Barclays cards).
Applying on Thursday.
Applying on days other than Thursday.
And of course, reconsideration agent bad hair day.
