Does Discover consider Target a supermarket?
I see my Target charges (B & M) are listed on my Discover statement as supermarkets. As Discover has supermarkets as one of its quarterly 5% categories this year - is it expected that Target will count as a supermarket?

I wouldn't expect it to qualify. "Grocery purchases made at convenience stores, gas stations, warehouse clubs, supercenters, discount stores (or at grocery stores associated with supercenters or discount stores) are not eligible."

I understand why Target would not count, but what about Whole Foods, for example? It's showing up as "Supermarket" on my statement. Is that its own category that does not qualify?

Whole Foods counts. Target doesn't count b/c pretty much every cc considers it a "discount store" like Walmart even though purchases there are coded as supermarket. An easy workaround is to buy Target giftcards at your local supermarket to get the 5% CB (at least all Safeway Supermarkets around me have them...not sure about your area's supermarket).

Target was its own category late last year where the Discovery card was giving the same 5% cash back as Target's own branded card which is probably why the store is no longer partnering with Discover.
