Can someone confirm that by clicking the I want to apply and pay for the flight using a BA card does not automatically pay for the flight?

Or is booking a refundable ticket the only route left?

I used the method in the first post. I did not get instantly approved, but was later automatically approved (and notified by e-mail). Does not look like any flight was purchased, confirmed, or ticketed.

Applied: 5/29 or 5/30 (forgot)
Approval E-Mail: 6/1
Annual Fee Posted: 6/1
Miles Awarded: TBD

Many of Happy's tips are valid and valuable, though. Lots more can be found where they belong, in the excellent "Chase miles - start here" thread on the BA board.
Ooops, sorry for the typo of TPE, y'all know it means TPA...

here’s how to get the offer for 50k now and 50k after one year WITHOUT BUYING A TICKET. i did this a few minutes ago so i know it works. a little labour-intensive, but worth the payoff. just follow the directions closely:

1. open an incognito window on google chrome.
2. go to the BA site and search for a one-way flight from chicago to london on an upcoming saturday (i chose june 23). it should price out to around $1400.
3. hit continue a bunch until you get to passenger details.
4. enter your details on this page. you MUST select YES that you are the name on the card that will be paying.
5. you should come to a screen that says “earn 100,000 avois” which gives you the option to apply for the card. if you instead came to the payment screen, CLOSE the incognito window, open a new one and repeat.
6. choose “Yes, I’d like to pay for this flight using my new card.” you will NOT actually have to pay for the flight. click on apply now.
7. it will show the details of your flight along with a big price. hit “continue to credit card application."
8. after you complete the application, you will be taken to a screen (hopefully telling you that you were approved) which will confirm that you have not yet bought the flight. it will redirect you to the payments page. just close the window, and you’re safe.

i don't think it's always necessary, but i do think there are cookies of some kind that prevent this from showing up for every single flight purchase. when i was playing around with it, i could not get the offer to appear repeatedly in a regular window but i could in an incognito window, that's why i suspect cookies. rather than clearing cookies/cache/etc., it's just easier to open an incognito window IMO.

Not just specific to this offer, but a best practice for many credit card offers: clear your cookies and cache or open a second browser that you don't normally use (IE or Chrome if you're a Firefox user) or open an incognito window before applying for an offer. I see the same refrain in a number of threads so I make sure I take one of those three steps whenever I apply for a credit card or register for a promotion. It just seems to prevent a lot of issues.

This just worked for us. The offer did not come up otherwise. Weird. Thank you!!!!

I also got the card

Thanks to all for the info on this thread...but, here's my question...when I look at the BA site for the Chase card offer (50-25-25), it makes note of the card being a chip & pin card, and when I applied for the offer mentioned on this thread (50+50), I just presumed it too would be a chip/pin card.

When the card arrived yesterday, it was not a chip/pin card, but rather the common mag stripe card...allbeit with the waived foreign transaction fee.

So, is Chase issuing chip/pin cards under one offer in the US, but not on the other offer? Is the chip/pin card just for those outside of the US? The activation conversation with Chase did not give any insight into why it wasn't the chip/pin card, and I thank the community in advance for their enlightenment.

google chrome has a feature called an incognito window where your computer won't leave any traces, or in this case bring any previous traces to the table. in chrome, use control-shift-N (command-shift-N on a mac) or go to file, new incognito window.

If it's anything like the two new cards that have arrived in this household recently (under two different offers) it will not only be lacking a chip but will also have come with an out of date leaflet telling you about last year's "$50 off" offer -- complete with December 2011 expiry date.

Chase isn't always on the ball, which has advantages in other areas . If you need the chip functionality, contact Chase and ask for a replacement card. Repeat as necessary (some people have reported having to do this twice!).

When I applied I received the card without the chip. I called them up and asked for the "EMV card". When they sent the second card it was still a regular card. I called back and asked for the "smart card" and that I needed it for travel to Europe, the CSR new what I wanted and I received it withing 4 days. So call them up and tell them the smart card.

Not exactly. Chase issues only Chip & Signature cards. These cards have the same EMV chip, but there is no PIN.

Discussion here:

USA EMV cards available today (Chip & PIN -or- Chip & Signature).
