50,000 after $3,000 spend:

Capital One usually does a hard pull with all three credit bureaus.
If you have a security freeze on your report, they generally will not allow you to submit a code for this report to be viewable.

If you've held this card before, it looks like you can get this bonus again. Data points: 1, 2. YMMV

Am about to apply for my 2nd Venture One for the 40K bonus.
Previous apply 2012; phone rep said since over 24 mos. since
last opened SAME EXACT card, then I qualify for bonus.

Contrarian comments? Well, at worse, when I get card
I'll call to verify I'm qualified, & if not, I'll immediately cancel.

Am desperate to continue finding new bonuses, as I've opened
so many cards last few years that I'm running out of choices.
Especially since citi HHonors went 2yr-churn!!!

(UPDATE: APPROVED VIA LINK IN WIKI ABOVE)

car rental

So I long ago closed my Venture card.

I still have a less than $1 credit balance on another C1 card.

For the longest time, I was still able to click on my miles on the account home screen, and book car rental for $.

It would warn me that miles were not available for use, but would let me get the PHAT deals on car rental.

Now it says "not currently available" and to call in.

When I call in, it asks for my account number.

I think it's over unless I reopen/reapply for Venture

Any backdoor tricks to get the car rental again?

Is there a thread on this somewhere already??

+1 I only have positive experience with the venture $59 af card. BoA sucks. Chase is ok if you have CSP. Citi is good on their premium cards but sucks on the low end cards.

C1 has a decent website as good as chase. boa and citi have really bad websites. amex is funcitonal but I find it quite cluttered.

mysterious ways

Did a mini-AOR (within seconds of each other in this order):

Chase- approved
Citi- approved
BofA- approved
Cap One Venture- denied

Now at this point, I already had the Cap One Spark Bus Card (sole prop business) loaded as well with identical info. I probably should have called it a day, but stubbornly figured probably wouldn't get approved but decent chance it's a free hit since could be combined with personal. So I went ahead and pulled the trigger, and...approved! LOL

This little experiment seems to confirm Cap One is acting in mysterious ways on who the hell they even want as a Venture customer these days, but Spark has looser standards (and a higher bonus anyway).

I'll try to remember to report back on whether the pulls got consolidated, but just be aware the personal and business sides of Cap One don't seem in alignment.

+1. I like C1 a lot, including their website and Cust. Svc. support. I have both Spark and Venture cards. I use them quite a bit in Europe and have never had an issue or rejection (unlike previous Barc. Arrival+ fiascos). I use pts. regularly to erase non-chain hotel and rental car expenses. Easy. I'm always a bit surprised C1 doesn't get the coverage other cards get. I'm very happy long-time customer.

comparison: applying with Sparks (or not)

OK, so with the Sparks business card, wanted to share some results:

Relative 1: Applied for both Sparks and Venture
- applied for Venture first, deferred. 10 minutes later applied for Sparks, approved.
- Venture later denied due to same inexplicable reasons others here have pointed out
- did not currently have any CapOne cards at point of applying
- tried to fill out Sparks ap EXACTLY as Venture ap to hope for combined pulls
- HP results: 2x TU, 1 EX, 1 EQ
- hypothesis: applying for both only cost an extra TU, perhaps there was something not EXACT in information on both aps, but more likely TU just didn't combine

Relative 2: Only applied for Sparks (already had massive personal CL on a CapOne personal card and assumed would not get approved)
- immediately approved for Sparks
- massive CL on personal did not impact getting approved and CL for Sparks
- HP results: 1 TU, 1 EX, 1 EQ

Conclusion: Sparks leads to the notorious 3 HP for each credit agency just like a lone CapOne personal card would. However, as long as one is very careful in filling in EXACTLY the same information on both, it appears worth the risk to apply for both cards if you have a sole prop-- however, if you don't fill in both correctly, you may get 2x on EX and EQ as well.

I was able to, through the secure message feature on the website, able to downgrade my Venture to the no-fee Venture One before my AF hit. I seem to remember some having problems doing this in the past.

I was able to do this when I called in just last week. Told them I've gotten good value out of the card, but with some new offers out there, I doubt I could get the same value to justify the $59 fee. Downgraded without any questions or issues AND got a new chip card (since I got my old Venture card probably a month before chip cards became the standard last year).

Since about May or so, been putting about $2k/month spend on it...it's my only Capital One account.

Other than signup bonuses, is there any reason to have a VentureOne over a Quicksilver card? Neither has an annual fee, but VentureOne earns you 1.25 miles per dollar redeemable for travel purchases/gift cards (1 cent per mile, or .5 cents per mile for cash back), versus Quicksilver at a straight 1.5% cash back. I have a Capital One that's evolved over the years from a plain old Visa to Gold to Platinum NoHassle Rewards and is currently a VentureOne, but wondering if there's any reason to keep it as a VentureOne or to try to convert it to Quicksilver.

C1 Venture not only gives you 2% rewards but extra airline Frequent Flyer Miles

Verify Me!
It seemed to me that if I have the C1 Venture card, I can reimburse the travel expense with the "Purchase Eraser", as well as earn Frequent Flyer Miles for any airlines as long as you're a FF member!

Let's say I am a fan of United Airlines, and I have 25,000 Venture miles in my account. I have an airline ticket that costs me $500, so I can use up my 25,000 points to get a reimbursement of $250. That's a 2% rewards.
BUT, the thing is I'm also earning United Airlines' FF miles at the same time, and it helps me earn my premier status quicker.

On the other hand, if I used real United miles instead to redeem a ticket. I won't be able to earn any miles nor will it count towards a premier status progress.

Now doesn't this sound like a good deal assuming I'm a frequent traveller?
Please advice, and verify that I'm not thinking too good.

gift card purchase that can be reimbursed?

We just got back from Disney World and put all our dining and extras on the Venture. Of course none of it coded as travel. I need to make a small travel purchase that I can redeem many times and I need to do it quick as my bill is due next week. We have no trips planned until we go on a cruise next year with Disney. Any gift cards I can buy that will code as travel or any other ideas?

You are correct that credit card rewards can be earned in addition to the rewards offered directly by airlines (and hotels). This is true of all cards.

Likewise you are correct that Capital One allows you to buy a revenue ticket, redeem points (which they incorrectly call "miles") to offset the charge, and still earn rewards from the airline for the flight. Many banks offer similar cards which also have this feature. Have a look at these threads to start:

Barclay Arrival + is effectively the same as Cap One Venture from the cardholder's standpoint. It's definitely churnable, and doesn't appear to have any waiting period between bonuses. See my post here:
