50,000 after $3,000 spend:

Capital One usually does a hard pull with all three credit bureaus.
If you have a security freeze on your report, they generally will not allow you to submit a code for this report to be viewable.

If you've held this card before, it looks like you can get this bonus again. Data points: 1, 2. YMMV

Looks as good as the Arrival+
I think slightly better because:
  1. You can redeem the same purchase multiple times to use up points
  2. Redeem for purchases under $25 (well full purchases - partial redemptions are limited to a minimum of $25)

Don't limit yourself to only travel expenses unless you have $1000 in travel coming up.
that's good to know (unlike arrival+)...thx

Hmm, I would not say slightly better. However, they do compliment each other well. The extra 0.2% on Arr+ makes a huge difference to me though, which equates to hundreds of extra $'s per year in my pocket. I know most people do not put well into the 6 figures on this card, but an extra $100 per $100k spend adds up quickly.

Denied again

I have an Amex plat business, hsbc Mastercard.

Was just approved chase sapphire and an Amex premier gold.

Guess what, I was denied a capital one quicksilver card for the 4th time. Last time I tried was 2 years ago. I have a big chunk of change in their bank and it makes no sense I'd be denied. Think I'm going to stop trying..

Based on some things I read on the myFico forums and my personal experience, I think Capital One is looking for low-ish credit scores and hoping those customers will end up carrying a balance and being profitable customers. My credit score right now is around 700 (recovering from a big batch of applications over the last 6 weeks or so, was around 750 before that on all 3 bureaus) with the last application being for the Venture Card. They approved me instantly with my highest credit limit to date....Now I'm just waiting for the card to come in the mail! (I do have a checking account with them but it's never had more than a few hundred dollars in it so I doubt that's a factor. I just like their mobile check deposit, which my primary bank does not offer.)

So, anyone looking for a fixed value travel rewards card who is afraid they wouldn't qualify for the Arrival+ (I don't think I would right now, they keep telling me I have sufficient credit with Barclay's) - give the Venture a try, you might be surprised!

jlynmriep, there's no doubt that CapOne is dancing to a different beat than other CC issuers. I have a FICO in the 670-700 range, depending on the bureau. I did an AoR two weeks ago and got these credit limits:

Discover It: $1500
Barclay Wyndham: $1000
Citi AA: $3000
CapOne Venture: $15,000

If you go to creditboards.com, there are tons of similar stories of CapOne giving out extremely high credit limits. There are also a number of reports of Capital One denying people whose credit is too good. They want people who are going to carry a balance and pay interest, maybe even get behind a month or two, but who will ultimately pay their bills. If my FICO were above 750, I'd be afraid of rejection.

Did not try it at the 24/7 unmanned gas stations or the Paris Metro terminals - my girlfriend was paying for those portions and she has the Arrival+, which is chip and pin.
Did u try VentureOne® Rewards or Venture® Rewards. Planning for europe travel. Planning to apply VentureOne® Rewards as it has 0% intro APR until June 2016, which will help me to pay back the trip cost on monthly basis.

Some bad news (from an email):

Recently, we’ve been working to provide you with even better ways to manage and redeem your rewards. As we update our program, we’ll be making changes to some redemption features you may have used in the past.

As of September 15, 2015, the following redemption options and features will change:
• If you gave someone else permission to redeem rewards on your behalf, they will no longer be able to do so as of September 15, 2015. You’ll need to redeem your own rewards after that time.
• The ability to transfer rewards from one Capital One® account to another will be unavailable; however, we know this feature is important to our customers and will be working to bring it back at a later date.
This is really disappointing for me.

The regular Venture - but the VentureOne has the same chip/signature technology.

Redeeming Capital One Venture & Spark Business Mile for Cash

Does anyone know at rate the points become if I try to redeem them for a statement credit/cash/or gift cards? I know the Venture gives 40k points/miles and the Spark Business gives 50k points/miles. I know that the Barclay Arrival + for examples essentially cuts the value in half when I redeem them for cash. I.e. My 48k points=$240. I was wondering the same for these two cards. I haven't applied for these cards yet. I wanted to know what there redemption values would be if I redeemed for cash. I already have tons of travel cards (and I dont even travel much)!

Thanks!

Apparently Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner just filed for divorce, I can't help but wonder if it's all because of the Venture Card.

Affleck: Are you kidding me? You said you were bringing miles to the table, these aren't miles!

Garner: What do you mean they aren't miles? You can use them on any flight, anytime, there's no blackout dates!

Affleck: Oh there you go again with the no blackout dates! Just call them cash-back Jennifer, let's just call it what it is. This is why we'll never work, you can't see things the way they really are?

Garner: Fine, but I'm taking my Venture miles with me!

Affleck: Ha, see if I care, good luck getting to Europe in First with those!

Just wanted to confirm a few things that I had trouble finding when looking for info before applying.

This card is very churnable, I got two by applying on the same day.

Applying on the same day will not result in combined credit pulls. My second app was run a week later, and re pulled CRs.

Points post instantaneously once charge posts. Makes it easy to redeem for line items that were part of the minimum spend.

Hope this is helpful to some.

Cash redemptions are half price (40k miles = $200). Even someone with a $20 taxi ride shouldn't need to take the cash redemption option, as redemptions can be repeated against the same charge.

Mine two Venture apps on the same day definitely resulted in only one hard credit pull (well, one hard pull from each of the three bureaus).

Did you get 2x auto approval? Were they simultaneous apps in incognito? Did you have to go through recon?

I got first auto approved, second pending. Called recon, said the process took a while, and that I could not speak to the credit analyst making the decision (called twice, same answer). The awarded me the second card 6 days later without me confirming any info, they re pulled the credit bureaus at that time.

Always interesting to hear those who had different experience.

OT

You should contact the CapOne Social Media Team. If their functions have not changed over the past few years, they ARE the group that can REALLY help you.

CapOne's Venture offer a few years ago was designed to aim at the upper market applicants. However it did not have the usual infrastructure to handle denial and recon. At the time we applied the cards, we had a very sizable cash deposit at the bank thanks to the very decent yield. Husband got an instant denial, literally within 2 seconds. He was super upset as his credit profile is identical to mine with the only difference being age.

The bank side was super sympathetic but they could not seem to penetrate the credit card side. We were lied to multiple times by phone reps about reconsideration until one supervisor finally told me the truth - there was no such thing called reconsideration - whatever the computer spit out, it was final. He profusely apologized for the lies fed to us by previous reps/supervisors. I was about to give up but decided to do some googling. Found an obscure site that the discussion mentioned about CapOne's Twitter team being very empowered. I signed up Twitter account specifically for contacting CapOne Social Media Team.

The Social Media Team rep contacted me within an hour after I twitted and asked for DM then gave brief details via DM. She said the team directly reported to the Exec Office and worked with many depts internally. She was very good to keep us informed. We did agree on another HP but it did not ever happen. Within 36 hours husband was approved the card with 30K CL, the highest CapOne would offer according to her.

In order to get that bonus you would need to upload your FF statement via a special webpage that requires a code to access the upload function. We would be on a cruise ship crossing the Atlantic where the internet connection would be really poor to none in the first 8 days. On top of that the deadline of submission was fast approaching. We explained this to her. She gave her direct phone number and the fax number, should we miss the deadline we can contact her upon our return.

Before our departure I wrote a long email to CapOne's exec office to let them know they have a wonderful employee working at their Social Media Team. Got the email response about the team members are the top employees picked from the organization and are empowered to solve issues.

When the ship hit Madeira, an island in the middle of Atlantic, we had good enough internet speed to check emails, found the code and uploaded the document. We also went on shore and mailed the hard copy. Upon our return we wrote a long letter to once again give our praise to the rep but also pointed out the lacking of CapOne's procedures. Dont know if it would even be read but at least that made us feel better to say a heart-felt thank you to the rep who went above and beyond to help us, and hope the management would take some notes in improving their credit card approval process if they want to compete with other banks in the major league.

It was because of this gesture, we decided to keep our cards with CapOne thru downgrading the Venture to Mastercard Reward (1% and 0.5% annual rebate). Eventually the MC were converted to QS. We have not used the cards for almost a year but now start using them again.

To be fair, CapOne's banking side has always been very good to us. Even though we no longer have large deposit with them, we continue to maintain our accounts with them. If we live in Maryland or Virgina, I 100% sure would bank with them at the branch level.
