I just got approved for this card last week and it's currently in transit. I moved to the States a few years ago and I'm slowly building my credit portfolio, so anything that helps is better than nothing.
I'm trying to meet the 3K min. spend within 3 months, which is not a problem at all, except that I'm reluctant to put any dining or big travel spend on the card right now when my wife has the Chase SP and Barclay Arrival Plus; both of which offer a much better redemption value.
So here's what I'd like to know in determining how to use the new card in order to meet the min. for the sign up bonus:
1) What constitutes a travel purchase? Is it strictly hotels and flights? What about travel services; tours, foreign transit, etc?
2) What time window do I have to redeem expenses for travel purchases? If I were to strategically charge certain travel related bookings to my new card, would I then be able to redeem against those charges 3-4 months down the line when all of the points are posted to my account? Is there a time limit or restriction on when you can request a redemption for 2% of past travel related purchases?

I was just instantly denied for the Venture card. 795 Fico 2 apps in last 4 months with other banks all approved.
Last year I enjoyed the Sparks cash Biz card and closed acct Oct '15 . Last week I made a bonehead move I reapplied for the Sparks cash biz card again. I thought that last years card was the Sparks cash personal card! Doh! There is no such thing! Unsurprisingly I got a "we'll let you know" response from their server.
Anyway, I guess they don't like me anymore, hence the Venture denial.

Probably a smart plan since you're taking 3 HPs each time. Besides that, no huge loss. This is an overrated card, IMO, beyond the bonus.

I've had similar experience with other banks, not just Cap1 for beginning transactions. Start with smaller transactions in first few weeks.

How long to wait before re-applying for the Venture One card after cancelling it? I was thinking of re-applying and trying the 2 browser trick to get 2 cards / 2 bonuses. I see from previous people in this thread that they have received 2 cards on the same day.

I applied online today for the Venture and got an instant approval! yay! so I applied again (based on another poster's success in getting 2 cards in 1 day) in another browser private window and got another instant approval! I have no idea if I'll also get 2 cards/2 bonuses though - will post when I find out. If so, this could be a base strategy for applications. I figured it doesn't hurt to try. Oh, I also got approvals with Experian frozen.
Edit: Wow. I just checked my Cap1 account online. Both cards are on there with different numbers - each $15K CL! So I think I'm good for the bonuses! YES!!!!

What am I missing with the Spark Miles vs. Spark Cash card? Why would you want to redeem for miles (which are basically just cash, but only on travel) instead of cash in this case? Surely there isn't a totally separate card just so you can choose to have what you can spend the cash rewards on restricted to only certain categories, or is there?
