Great! Thank you Scott.
Quick question: when changing an end-point from an agglomeration airport to another airport, same agglomeration (say, JFK to LGA, or LAX to BUR), is it considered the same point therefore no fee? Or different?
Thanks!

Like my trip yesterday? SJC-IAH arrived early, and I had booked a longer connection on IAH-DCA since I didn't want a risky connection, so I had plenty of time to make the earlier flight. Instead of getting me out of the system, I sat around an abused the PC supply of Fritos for almost 3 hours.
I do like this change though - reward bookings I make with a fixed location, it's the time/date that can be volitile.

Scott,
Honestly, this isn't what folks had in mind when you said CO "heard you loud and clear". I know your job is tough having to defend these polices and knowing that you are trying to stay afloat like most of us....but since these issues are not labor intensive, in terms of re-work, it still smacks of gouging your customers.
1, Many of us already have flights booked....before Feb 19, so we are stuck under the old punitive rules;
2. The complaints that were shared, including mine were the onerous "redeposit fee of $150.00", with many folks suddenly in fear of or who already lost their jobs, isn’t it nice to know CO will charge them to redeposit their miles, so they can preserve them for use at a time when their job is more stable; with me having reserved 9 tickets under 3 reservations to the same place, same time, it will be outrageous to have to pay hundreds of dollars to save my miles, in the event of a job change/loss situation;
3. The reduced fee is nice, and thanks……..but since seats open within the 21 days, in order to take advantage of dates closer to your needs, you are still being dinged for making changes in that time frame….
So much for being a loyal customer; ……so, in the end I find it hard to give the ole' CO cheer on this announcement!.
Finally, some of us have dropped below Plat this year , [mine goes away in two weeks], due to job change economic conditions, etc, and there is no acknowledgement of past loyalty. It is the "what are you doing for me today" mentality that gets many of us....Remember, current PLATS at some point you will move down or out of the status you enjoy [as I will Feb. 29] and at that time unless you burned your miles before you leave that sanctuary, you will be disappointed that CO has not granted a soft landing when it comes to the use of your miles that you earned being away from home for many years......

The old, old policy was $50 for all changes/redeposits for most folks, $35 for Silver/Gold and free for Platinum. Then there was the old policy that was $150 for all changes/redeposits for everyone other than Platinums.

What were you expecting?
They stated outright that the issue wasn't the manpower required for the rebookings. It is the spoilage on the seats as CO can't resell them as readily within the 21-day window.

So why keep the fee for cxl or change of O/D cities when outside the 21-day window?
And if it's because they're worried about keeping the liability of RDMs on their books, why not offer a choice of $150 or 15,000 RDMs charge to redeposit? Or at least put the fee on a sliding scale based on number of RDMs involved.

To prevent everyone from booking random reward seats all over the place. There area still some costs/liabilities for having folks cancel seats even 21+ days out.
This change allows folks to optimize their flight options on a reward, starting with poorly timed connections, inconvenient dates, etc. and eventually getting to the best options available on the dates that they want to travel. That was specifically the most frequent complaint that was made when the fee was jacked up and seems like a reasonable one for them to address.

I am currently a Platinum, but will not be after 2/28. So I just had to cancel two reward reservations that I made on 2/17 and rebook them today so I can get the new rules applied. This is for May travel. What a pain for both me and Continental.
