Question Current State of (Premium) Transcon Meal Service?

Just bought EWR-SFO return ticket in A for next weekend. Haven't been on CO metal in a while. What's the state of meal service to SFO/LAX these days? Is it still premium? Menus? Four entrees? Sundaes?

We need a "Let's Eat" thread!

There's a thread today on transcon meals, from CO Insider.

It's from BuddyPass, but it says the "secondary markets" will revert to the service on the "premium markets". My question is: What does premium transcon service entail these days?

I think that it wouldn't hurt. It would cut down on the amount of food threads and consolidate up do date food information in one thread.

And, no printed menus.

The source of the idea makes it sound so much better.

Since FCTSTY's is unavailable..."Why dont you buy food before your board and enjoy what you want?"

I would recommend FCTSTY's personal favorite...Gallagher's Steakhouse in EWR.

I thought it was down to 3 choices--no seafood option...that was the experience on my transcons in November. Nuts, appetizer, salad, bread basket, 3 entree choices, and sundae...no menus.

I miss FCTSTY. But I think the usual line made the point -- Why would you allow some bean counter in Houston to decide what you want to eat? Bring your own victuals.

Conversely, why bring your own food if CO is going to provide a meal you know you will want to eat? Bringing food can be very wasteful if CO is already providing a meal. Personally, I often have no time to get something edible before a flight, so I much appreciate the OK meal CO provides on its transcons.

BenjaminNYC - I haven't flown a CO transcon for about two months, but the last time I did there were still four hot entrees and sundaes. There were no printed menus, however, and the FA's had trouble describing the meals. In the other thread CO Insider said that printed menus are coming back sometime in the future.

Wine, as usual, was "some red and some white."

Exactly correct. It will be going back to 4 Feb. 1, but is currently 3 choices.

I would enjoy a Buy on Board (BOB) option instead of a micowaved cheeseburger..you could buy something fresh and choose what you wanted sandwich or salad and it would cut down on food waste..I wonder how much food they throw out..
