question about BF to Europe

I’m planning a vacation to Europe this summer and would appreciate some advice regarding BF service to Europe. (using OP rewards)

First, is the BF experience any better on a wide-body aircraft as opposed to a 757?

Also, if I were to only schedule BF in one direction, should I take BF on the outbound, or return? (I’m thinking the return, because it’s a daytime flight and, outbound I would be sleeping a good bit of the flight)

Thanks for your time!

757 BF is worse than a 767 or 777 (smaller seat and less recline)

I'd go BF at night as a nightime Y trip is worse than the benefits of a daytime BF

However if you can sleep in Y then take the day flight as you will enjoy the experience more

The BF seat on the 777 is the better of the BF seats
the 767 vs the 757 can be argued about
the 757 seat does not recline as much as the 767 but the
AVOD system (when operational) is miles ahead of the 767 which is IFE with looped video on a smaller personal screen.

I usually opt for Europe US BF upgrade when having to pick , the reason for me , is the flight is longer , during the day and I can usually manage to sleep in coach on the US-Europe sector.
Others may have different opinions

I enjoyed US to EU BF and about to enjoy it going back, on a 767. No problems with the recline it went as far back as I wanted I don't think I will care much for lie flat when it comes, too cramped for a tall person such as myself.

IT all depends on whether you can sleep in Y. It seems to imply in the OP that sleeping won't be a problem in coach.....With that as the case then I would UG Eur--->US to enjoy the fun up front.

I personally would do nothing more that angrily fidget while unsucessfully trying to sleep stuck in Y overnight TATL so would prioritize UG US---> EUR.

Another down side of UG Eur --- > US is that you tend to end up very drunk by the end of it if you spend your whole time drinking instead of sleeping

Having traveled on all three a/c I think they all have their pluses and minuses:

1. 777 BF with AVOD is overall my favorite. Best seat, airy, spacious cabin. I prefer the larger, front cabin.

2. 767 BF. No AVOD is a bummer, and seat is not quite as comfy as 777, but if you are traveling along (unlikely if you are going on vacation) then the 767 middle seat is brilliant.

3. 757 BF. Least spacious seat with least recline, but all have AVOD and BF cabin is only 16 passengers with two flight attendants, so it's usually a pleasant experience.

assuming that you can sleep in coach on a red eye then go BF on the return. I am usually half bagged by landing so enjoy the ride

if i go to LHR then i try to take the day flight (757) - even coach is ok. you land at 9 pm, hit the pub, take an ambien and off to sleep. Red eyes kill me the whole next day

partners BF

I have been searching CO.com for OP reward availability and came across a couple options that interest me...

Does anyone have any thoughts on the FC cabins on a 747?
(NW to AMS, or Virgin Atlantic to LHR)

If anyone knows of any other routes using a 747 to Europe please let me know... especially to Italy or FRA.

Thanks again.

If you can get a reward on VS - do it
especially for the LHR VS clubhouse experience, and yeah the cabin is great.

Just did a MIA-LHR Upper Class reward trip. The seat/bed is great and the Clubhouse in LHR is outstanding. Inflight service and food CO does much better however. When Flying Virgin, if you don't ask you don't get. That relates to drinks, snacks, sleep suit, etc.

Perhaps it depends on the crew because I've had it both ways (having to ask and being offered everything above).

I'd recommend trying VA UC to LHR.

I know LH flies to JFK-FRA with a 747. They also go direct to MUC but I'm not sure about the bird. Oh, but your OP miles are worthless on LH (for now). Amex MR might work though.

You can't transfer Amex MR to LH only SQ and AC.
LH flies the 747 to JFK , they used to use it to EWR but I believe that has gone to A330 and or A340 and MUC is also done with Airbus

KLM flies the 747 to JFK

I have now been in one of the 757's fresh off a BF flight.
Th biggest issue I'd have on a TATL is that the foot rest is just a foot prop, it barely comes up at all. There is plenty leg room, recline is decent the locking winged headrest is better than the 767, but the footrest is just horrible.
