Sorry for the quasi off-topic rant. It just gives me an ice-cream headache trying to figure out why an airline, like CO, that seems to have such excellent business sense fails so miserably at this.
I haven't had an ice-cream headache in a while (ahem...) but that's a topic for another thread
Just thought I would share how this change affected me today.
I booked reward mileage online, choosing a businessfirst reward to Asia. The reservation went through all its cycles; accepted payment for taxes and confirmed the reservation on the screen with the valid confirmation number.
The email confirmation arrived showing the booking in "E" class - the usual class ID for this trip.
Later in the day, I visited my account at continental.com to review the reservation and found that both of my "E" class flights had been changed to "ECONOMY - I".
Although I understood that E was to become I, the change to "economy" class surprised me and I called in to Onepass. They confirmed that the change of fare classes was now in process and that my reservation would "eventually" show "BUSINESSFIRST - I".

Seems as if all seat assignments were LOST! I checked my previous BF, NOW ECONOMY award and yep...seats gone!
This is 2 for 2 on vacation flights with CO!!! I hate when seat assignments are lost.
Called the plat line, and was told "check back tuesday or wednesday"! How can it take THIS LONG???
Is the the EUA process being bothered by the class changes maybe...
Flew CO 254 (SFO-CLE) today with two colleagues....two of us EAU'd yesterday at the automatic 24 hour mark....before long 30+ on elite upgrade list. Third colleague is #1, right up to 30 mins before departure in the PC. Colleague gets the battlefield upgrade, but we still left with 1 empty seat in first....Gate agent came on board and told FAs first was full, but never looked. I asked the FA about it as we pushed back and he said I dont know why the seat is empty.

Yes, the EUA is being disrupted (see CO Insider's OP on this thread), but this sounds like a failure at the gate, since it was a failure to run enough battlefields.

Yeah, I've lost mine too, but I have no doubt I'll get it back.
Interestingly, the fare class on my outbound flight has changed, but not my return.

I should have probably better explained my post about my thinking that this was indeed related to COInsiders post.
And I agree it looked like a gate failure, but with this going on who knows.

I called CO tonight about upgrading with miles as the web site showed availability. I also wanted to change my wifes economy class to first class on an all mileage savepass award as, again, the web site showed availbility.
The agent said they were completely screwed up by the fare class change over, that the availibility shown on the website was probably not accurate, and that he coudn't even see what the availibility was and that I should call back on Sunday when the dust had settled.
Well, I scored a reward seat because of the changes.
Website showing availability for me EWR-MCO and I jumped on it and went throught the ticketing process only to be stopped when paying the $5 fee and told to call the tech support desk.
Well, after 45 minutes with a really really helpful agent who also was not able to issue the ticket because she couldn't see the award as available, she got me an override and I got the ticket.
This was early this morning and I suspect it had to do with the changeover.
Considering that this ticket is for a holiday period and I've been check several times a day for weeks, well, it's the only explanation I can think of.

I just checked and I already have my missing seat assignments back, in the same seats they were in before. This despite the fact that my fare class now shows "Economy (O)" and the assigned seats are in the BF cabin.

The Y-up process seems to be (mostly) working during the update. The upgrade link was still available and now my flights for next week are listed under the new 'CU' code. My seat assignments are still in coach though.
I think CO needs to start adding Greek characters, like how physicists do for all their constants. Besides, a lot of people were in frats and sororities, so the letters shouldn't be that foreign to them.
To make things more exciting, how about choosing a more exotic character set like Arabic, Thai, or Hindi?
We flew outbound on the 15th with a return scheduled for the 27th. The reservation moved to the 'Past' Tab under the Manage Reservation Screen on the 15th. It shouldn't have since there were unflown segments. This trip was also compounded by a WX caused missed connection so who knows what's been done to the records.
If I View Receipt from the Past Tab I can view the receipt. I can then View the Reservation by Confirmation Number. The unflown segments show, without seat assignments. I don't know if the Fare Class has been changed since it was 'L' to begin with.
I have time so I'll deal with it on Wednesday if it isn't showing properly under Current Reservations, since I don't want to miss a shot at the 5 day EUA.
