So, I was wondering if someone on a lower fare class could get an EUA over me b/c of the change over. Not a huge deal, but I curious, and I am sure others are wondering too....
I was EUA'd for both flights but i didn't get notice till about two hours after the EUA ran. Great to see that the changes went through smootly and EUA is up and running!
Sorry if this has been asked, but are there any reports of people being gifted upgrades? I have a friend who booked during the update and today he is showing upgraded into I. He was able to select a seat too. I wonder if it will stick. I'm jealous.

I am aware of this and this is not what my post was about.

I would be surprised if CO adds in a B-Up fare that is open to everyone and not just elites. That would be a huge change of policy.
Well then be surprised. But I don't know why you would be or would assume this is a huge change of policy. CO has for the last few years sold discounted coach fares. They booked into "R" inventory and were R-basis fares. Domestically, they usually priced between Y and A. But then you probably are aware of this.
Now CO is offering a "BCOUP" fare on EWR-LAS beginning 1/21/09. Note the first letter and the last two letters of this fare basis: B-UP. It appears similar to the old "R" fares. However, the fare rules as posted on CO.com (which are mostly empty) indicate a "B" Fare Class, but the reservation shows booked into "R" Class. Hence the confusion over how many base miles /EQMs it earns because "R" isn't in the new chart and most customers won't even know the fare basis code begins with "B".
Go ahead. Try it. EWR-LAS on 2/15/09 for example.
FWIW, this B-UP fare is priced between a full Y and full F (like the old "R"). There are also three other "regular" B fares on this route. Starting at $379 o/w nonrefundable and up to $599 o/w for refundable. Then Y is $619, BCOUP $669 and F $719.
Being able to "B-UP" the $379 o/w fare as an elite is a HUGE advantage over the old system. I'm sure this is route-specific but clearly there are cases where the price of a(n upgraded) first class ticket has just dropped dramatically.

That's a mistake then (or there are other limitations on that Y fare that don't exist on the B fare). B is beneath Y. It replaces the old H. It prices out less than Y in all the itineraries I've priced it on.
We all know that CO sold a discounted F seat from a bucket called R. They still do but it has a new bucket name.
B is just the new name for H. The big change people are talking about is that it is now instantly upgradeable.
And by the way, I doubt that BCOUP fare basis has anything to do with it being upgradeable (besides the fact that it's in the B bucket). Before the changeover and before these non-Y coach fares were upgradeable, I was buying HCOUP tickets often.

So what's up with Mileage Award Reservations? I tried to do a mileage award in Virgin UC from EWR to LHR and return. The website shows plenty of savepass awards available, but after selecting flights, I receive the following message "Flight CO8246 is not available for BusinessFirst or First Class seats between New York, NY (JFK) and London, England (LHR - Heathrow)".
Nevertheless, if I click though to the pre-purchase screen and seat selection, it actually shows it as 100,000 miles as if it was UC both ways, and the seat selector shows UC seats. So do I believe the message, my lying eyes, or should I call an agent?

You did ask about inventory limitations and the fare buckets moving around and what credits you'd get.

CO has often sold R fares that are less expensive than full F/J fares, but R fares were sold as a discounted F/J fare, not as a coach fare that was "upped" in some way.
CO has NOT sold coach fares that booked into first for non-CO/NW elites for the past several years. UA, AA and DL definitely have. If CO were to change their policy on this I do think it is a significant change.

I see that, but I'm not convinced that it is truly a B-Up for the general public. The R bucket is a reward inventory bucket, not a generally available F bucket in the new scheme. My guess is that this is a vestige of the changes going on this weekend.

I agree. That is a great deal.
FWIW, here's the fare rules on BCOUP. It doesn't mention anything at all about booking into R, F or any other first class bucket.
