Hi all. I'm trying to purchase a ticket for a yet to be born/named infant. Does anyone know whether CO will have any problems subsequently changing the ticket to her name (once its been discovered)? Not sure how best to proceed with CO, but we're pretty sure this trip will occur and the price is right today. Thanks for the guidance.

The only issue re name would be on the OnePass Account.
(Getting credit for the flight.)
Buying a ticket for "Baby A" and deciding to name her "Baby J"......
Congratulations

I don't know what CO policy is, but I can comment on my experience with 2 other ST airlines. Both of my boys took flights with my wife and I in the first few weeks after they were born - one on KE and the other on NW. The flights were booked long before they were born/named.
The airlines were unable to issue a ticket for them without a name and wouldn't allow changing the name on the ticket at a later date (I don't think this is allowed in general for anybody) but . . . they did make a note on my wife's reservation that she would be travelling with a lap infant.
Since the lap infant doesn't require another seat it can be purchased and ticketed at the airport at the time of departure. Seems like it was 10% of the normal fare. That's what we did and had no problems at all.
Having the lap infant noted on my wife's reservation was important as it allowed them to issue us seat assignments on the bulkheads with bassinets ahead of time, even though the infant didn't yet have a ticket.
Getting OP miles is the easy part - sign them up as soon as they are born and you'll have their OP number with the correct name well before you fly. Unfortunately you don't get any miles for lap infants.
Just dawns on me - this is a pretty worthless answer if you actually want a seat instead of a lap for Baby J. Post back if you find out what CO's policy is so we can all learn something.

My SO (CO GE) mentioned one of her acquaintances in Newark was able to purchase a ticket for a soon to be born infant (it was under the name [Mother's Name] baby). She mentioned that upon check in they would have to verify the baby and his/her documents (for name purposes? not sure on this).
The family travels a lot, they said that their baby was already CO SE soon to be GE. It was wild.

What about just purchasing a second seat for yourself? While it would be cool to get the baby miles right away, maybe a compromise needs to be made.
Or... we could have a contest here to name your baby Though, I think "Baby J-Flyer" is pretty cool.
Mrs. J-Flyer and I are discussing lots of names, but suggestions are always welcome. No decisions yet, and Baby J-Flyer works well enough for now.
CO official policy was to issue a ticket in the name of "babyXXXXer" and they will change the ticket to reflect actual name once it has been determined.
Baby will be 7 months when we fly and its a 4.5-5 hr flight so we opted for a 3 seat bulkhead alignment on a 737 instead of lap ticket. Didn't even think of buying a second ticket for myself, but that would have worked too.

OT but before your wife and yourself name your kid, ask yourself, would I have wanted my name to be this? Then ask yourself would my kid's butt be kicked in school because of this name?

Only if it is a domestic flight (int'l would have the 10% fare issue). And you'd still need to list infant in arms after the fact to make that work.
Also, are you really buying a ticket more than 7 months out? Wow. I didn't think anyone did that anymore.
It is international. We have pretty specific dates around Thanksgiving to celebrate step-dad's 80th with a whole slew of family so I figured it can't hurt to lock-in a good value. All in for 3 was 1020usd r/t. I'm losing 30 or so dollars on interest plus any additional fare savings if EWR-SJO fare dropped below 277 but in exchange I get to eliminate one travel plan from endless consideration lock-in a pretty decent rate get 3 bulkhead seats and give other family members flights to plan around

Good answers. It looks like you did everything correctly. With it being international it will be critical that CO does change the name to the baby's new name so that there aren't passport/boarding issues. And $277 is a pretty good fare for SJO; I would have booked now, too.
