Your memory is wrong. With CO you receive what you earn. There are no soft landings.

I think the closest thing CO has to a 'soft landing' is if you qualify for infinite silver or gold. Then, if you're platinum and stop flying, you and your designated status-match person would drop to whichever level you'd remain for life.

On the other hand, I've been Platinum with Marriott for years and every year I've greatly exceeded the number of nights needed for that level. Last year, I didn't quite make it to Platinum however based on how much I've exceeded the requirement every year, they extended my status another year. I wonder if Continental would do the same thing for someone who earned say150,000 EQM or 160 EQP but then cut back the next year?

This is so true, especially with the bonus flight miles going from 50% to 25%.

Dropping one level?

I hope you are feeling better.

Can someone clarify this further for me? I lose my current plat status at end of Feb 09. I qualified last year as silver, and just assumed I will drop from plat to silver on 01 March, but this seems to "imply" that I drop to gold. Could his be correct?

You will drop from Platinum to whatever you earned based on your EQM total from calendar year 2008.

Unless, of course, you pull a few EWR-SIN flights in first before March 1st, and earn platinum for the rest of this year. I remember a recent thread about someone who does this every year.
