Zagat Airline Survey 2010 Winners Announced

So the ratings are out...

CO won 1st place for top-rated large domestic carrier first class, and third place (behind JetBlue and Southwest) for best large domestic carrier economy.

Even though UA's first class product came in 4th place (after CO, AA and DL), what seems most surprising is that their domestic product didn't even rank in the top five!!

Guess the "luxury and opulence" of E+ didn't do much to sway voters...

One can only imagine how the new inhabitants of Wacker Drive are interpreting these data...

Hopefully they are going to look at the Best Frequent Flyer program category and see that neither OnePass nor MileagePlus are listed and come to the conclusion that it's VERY VERY important to improve the new joint program

Or they could come to the conclusion that the authors of the survey and/or the participants aren't really all that familiar with the material at hand. I mean, seriously -- eleVAte and Rapid Rewards?

As much as I am partisan of E+, there are more criteria than E+ alone:

1. At least half of the UA economy cabin is E-. No advantage to CO here since it's all E-

2. IFE: No UA domestic E has PTV, while most CO domestic does, even if it is PPV.

3. Meals: Until recently, ""meals"" (notice the double scare quotes) were free in economy. They no longer are, but CO does have hot BoB, at least up to row 21, which UA does not.

4. Ghetto Birds: CO has no ghetto birds.

Perhaps that was reason enough to place CO in 3rd and UA out of the rankings...
