Very interesting as if the DOT follows the Justice Department's opinion, Continental's planned departure from Skyteam could result in little, if any, benefit when it joins Star (if it does at all).

Add Pluna, MIAT Mongolian Airlines, and Ghana International Airlines to that mix, and you've got a winner.

Legally I'm sure that'd be a cluster. Its too bad when AC helped bailed out CO many years ago they didn't force CO to join forces with them. Though I'm guessing *A didn't exist back then.

This does not affect CO joining *A - just restricts some of the 'synergies' they hoped to get from the arrangement. Certainly 'change we can believe in'
Something to consider - given UA's increasingly dire situation, this could be an appropriate moment for CO to join with a strong funding source (hedge fund, etc) to make a bid for UA and end its misery.

CO tried for the "world" literally and got slapped down to (they hope) the Atlantic. And until the DOT makes it's final ruling, they still may get the world. Stay tuned.

A major source of the misery at UA is on the cost side of the house, particularly with respect to labor. A straight buy-out wouldn't get rid of that; they'd need bankruptcy to kill all the contracts. And even still it would be a mess.
I honestly don't think that buying UAUA as is would be a good deal for anyone.

Typical socialist behaviour by the DOJ - thanks to everyone who elected comrade Barry to the WH.
