Thumbs down E-Miles Program: I wasn't using my privacy anyway.

Who else has gotten an e-mail invitation to join e-miles? It looks like some targeted marketing shenanigan in which, in return piddling quantities of miles you basically give up your privacy and get turned into some sort of remote-controlled monkey by the marketing specialists who are analyzing your responses.

In this giant self-perpetuating feedback loop, you play prostitute to CO's marketing pimp (although I'm sure it's some specialized firm that actually crunching the data on your "preferences").

Remember those "I wasn't using my civil rights anyway" bumper stickers? The E-miles thing provokes a similar sentiment. I'd never, ever do it. And the pathetic inducements of a few dozen miles make it downright insulting.

My personality and private life are worth more than 100 miles, Continental, so you can get lost with this offer (just like the stupid Plutonium Mastercard that you keep sending me and my 4 year old over-the-top invitations to apply for).

Amen. </rant>

I can't believe that CO had the gall to send you marketing materials based on your relationship with them, and which you have agreed to receive from them

If you don't want to receive 3rd party marketing emails, just opt out of them. The option is on My Account | Profile | E-mail Settings | E-mail Subscriptions.

CO has played entirely within the rules. You are complaining about something that you brought upon yourself. ^

Yeah I cracked one of those open "once" After I saw the info & time I was supposed to give away for a few hundred miles I had to laugh.. well something like that anyway.

Actually, I did. But the search crapped out or, well, didn't return anything in a reasonable period of time.

As to SBM's whine, if you take, say, 5 seconds to look at the post, you will see it is about E-miles and privacy, not about having recieved the e-mail.

And actually, I'm not subscibed to to partner offers and never have been. This one apparently went out under the banner of OnePass News. So take that!!!

Actually, I wonder if CO didn't mistakenly place me in the "joiner" column after I submitted to the "gift account" and "mileathon". Their mistake. Those were the exception more than the norm.

I got one of these promos from every airline who participates in the program.

Heck, 500 miles is 500 miles, and no one says you have to be completely honest.
