Mileage Run Out of IAH

I'm not having any luck finding a decent price from IAH to anywhere. I need 11,200 to make platinum so I'm looking for something that will accrue 5500 miles. Any suggestions.

DL and NW have just announced fare sales for tickets purchased by 10/8. I'm hoping CO will follow suit.

what's your definition of "a decent price"? you should be able to get a good number of miles for under $200. but 11,000 in one trip? methinks yer getting a little greedy, lol.... might take ya two RT's to do it, especially from houston.

just booked cle-iah-lax-cle for 11/10-11 for $192.50, 9060 miles. look in the markets that southwest serves. CO is matching the price. you might want to drive over to San Antonio as well... pass thru IAH.

Thanks Dux, driving to San Antonio might be the way to go. Everything I'm pricing out of IAH is $250 plus. I realize I can't get 11,000 out of one trip, but I only need 5,500 because of the double mile promotion. This could be done in one trip but will probably need two.

Even without a "sale," you can find good fares, but ya gotta really look for them. I just found a fare last night, SNA-IAH-PBI-TPA-EWR-SNA for $149.50, taxes included. And that's out of SNA where cheap fares are traditionally scarce! So, the fares are there, but you've gotta really look!

But duxfan is right! IAH is in the middle of the country, and thus you'd be hard pressed to find a flight over 5500 miles unless you fly overseas. Heck, I can barely get 5500 miles from the coast!

Fly to Europe, or make two domestic flights!

SAT-TPA-MCI-TPA-SAT $161

6500 Base
6500 Double Miles
8100 Platinum Bonus
_______________________

21100 Total Miles

$0.0076 per mile

Note that this is just with the most direct routing.

Also note that you could snag an EFD-SAT flight for $73 and pick up another 4000 base miles.

(It is possible that they might only double the actual mileage flown on the EFD-SAT segments rather the minimum 500 miles/segment.)

here, try this.... i just pulled it up...

11/27
CO378 SAT-IAH 7:15a - 8:15a
CO1649 IAH-SEA 9:18a - 11:53a

11/28
CO1288 SEA-IAH 8:15a - 2:26p
CO1522 IAH-SAT 3:30p - 4:23p

$193.50 RT

mileage works out like this:
SAT-IAH 500+191 bonus
IAH-SEA 1883+1883 bonus
SEA-IAH 1883+1883 bonus
IAH-SAT 500+191 bonus

according to my calculations, that 8914 miles.... and its available!

good luck

are you certain they are giving 500 bonus miles on segments less than 500 air miles? i'm guessing that they'll give us the 500+ actual as the bonus. haven't seen anyone say we'll get a mimimum 1000 miles per segment... might wanna check on that so you don't get burned...

No, I'm not sure.

I'm in the same boat/city and I think that right now the best route to try is AUS-SAN for about $100.00 AUS is located on the way to Austin so if you take I- 10 west and connect to SH-71 W you will go right past AUS.

I have contemplated taking a mileage run AUS-IAH-SAN-IAH-RDU/TPA/MCO/??? and back. That way you get the full transcon and a cheap seat with the double miles...

My 2c hope it helps.

BSL -

before you get crazy hopping around texas like some crazed frog, BE CERTAIN that you are going to get the double on the minimum. if you are only getting double actual miles rather than double minimum, you'll wind up getting a lot less than you bargained for.

for the record, i called the OPSC, and they could not answer the question. nor could i get them to voice an opinion....

The $84 AUS-SAN fare allows routing through east coast points. For example AUS-MEM-FLL-IAH-SAN is allowed. This will more than double the miles of AUS-IAH-SAN.

Double elite miles are scheduled to end on 11/15, so duxfan's 11/27 price won't get you double elite.

Sorry, that was 10/27 and 28.... i just need a bigger keyboard on my notebook...

good catch tho!

Duxfan you are correct that is an important question but the price difference was substantial enough to justify flying out of AUS instead of IAH. $84/$158 and the extra miles did not hurt regardless of which flights get doubled. This is the difference that would make me drive to AUS and flyback through IAH.
