OnePass Status Match

I got OnePass "Platinum" status for 90 days as a match w Delta Platinum. The airline requires me to log 35,000 miles in three months to maintain the new status. Sounds unrealistic. Any thoughts?

Sounds reasonable. Why should they provide unlimited Platinum status with no business in reurn? Two trips to Asia and you are more than half way there. Tnere are lots of flyers on here that routinely fly more than 35,000 in yhree months.

Understand that in those 90 days you are getting the privileges of the status level (unlike most other airlines programs that require challenge completion before any benefits). And if you meet the challenge level you would have the status for the remainder of the year. They are taking a risk (advance benefits and full year on lower than normal requirements) with you, and it is reasonable the hurdle is a moderately (but significant) level of activity.

If those requirements are too steep, consider changing to a challenge for a lower more appropriate level. Gold/Prem Exec is 25K in 90days and Sliver/Premier is 15K in 90 days.

Just curious and maybe none of my biz, but why switch? Are the UA routes a better fit? Perceived better value? ... How many miles did you fly with DL during an avg 90 days period?

Its very realistic for some and not so for others. If it doesnt meet your flying criteria do as was suggested and challenge to a lower level.

not about the original question - but just wondering, what's the best way to request for a status match/challenge ? I sent an email to onepass@coair.com a while ago with my details / latest statement from another program etc, but never heard back...is there another address I should use now because of the merger ? thanks a lot !!

Or maybe they should just give 1K status for flying 1k miles??

That way all the matchers could take a $139 rt to Beaumont for the weekend, and come home with 1K status.

No sense they should have to fly the same number of miles to earn status as the rest of us......

Status matches in general are just ridiculous. If you want status, earn it like the rest of us do.

If I were the OP, I would have asked UA for a 1K challenge instead. My biggest issue with the match/challenge is that the 1K challenge has the exact same requirements as the Platinum challenge. Why not get a better status for the same requirements?

And if anyone is thinking since OnePass is going away that they are using a 1 time challenge, I would advise you that DL could still see my old status match from Northwest on my converted Sky Pesos account. So the theory is not foolproof especially since UA is using CO numbers and computer systems. Just a heads up on that one.

I just got an email from Co about status match For Platinum Elite,,

so in those 90 days do I get

3 free bags
international lounge access
the same bonus award miles a Platinum Elite would receive
Upgrades ?

and do I get the above no matter what or only after I complete the challange ?

and when I do become Platinum Elite do I get all the perks as if I earned it the old fashioned way of "flying" ? like SWU passes that I can give to others ?
Thanks for your ideas

RB

PS.....I did a 1K United challenge in 2011 and got the 6 SWU which made it worth the $$$$ and trouble.

If you earned 1K in 2011 won't that carry over to 2012? Or were you on a special deal yhat only awarded status for 2011 and you didn't meet the threshhold for renewal? If your 1K carries over to 2012 it will give you 1K status on the combined UA/CO starting March 3 so no need to do another challenge. If you are doing the status match to tey to get the SWU's I am not sure those will be awarded for the reduced flying on CO But perhaps others can share their experience, recognizing that all bets are off beginning March 3.

the 1K was a special deal that kept me 1K for all of 2011 but not for 2012

it was flying 25k miles and paying $500 and I got 6 SWU.

So this year that 25K equals Silver , as the other 35K miles I flew in 2011 were Award miles I used up.

I can do the miles to get the Plat challenge but if it does not get me SWUs it might be smarter to go another way.

Since Platinums only get the 6 SWU's AFTER they have passed 100,000 miles (at which point they now will become 1K's), you are unlikely to get the SWU's for flying 35,000 miles. That said, enjoy the status while you can.

Looking at the offer now, you only need 25K miles to reach Platinum. I wonder how this will affect those already in the middle of the challenge:

Has anyone ever been turned down for a publicly available status match?

I'm currently Silver on Delta, though I do have booked 7600 miles worth of flights for a 90 day period booked with Continental. I have one more flight to book which would take me over 10,000. I'm looking to book the lowest fare for Delta or Continental, so it's possible that I will have 10,000+ miles booked before I submit a request.

Would they turn me down?
