Unlike kevinsac, our trip was (via South Georgia) quite moderate, and the return to Ushuaia was so calm - we cruised with one engine shut down, arrived many hours too early to pick up our pilot for the Beagle Channel, and enjoyed a "Drake's Lake" (perfectly flat calm) visit to the dreaded Cape Horn.
Voted for ya. May you have the same passages we had!

...Can someone tell me where to go to find out how to make a signature with a link in it that says "go *here* and vote for carnasie" with the here being a link to this thread? I see others with similar, like that great youtube of kai tek.
Also, will try a direct link from twitter and facebook. Good luck, c!
Thanks.

You can play with formatting controls to make your signature look and say what you prefer.
For now, if you like the appearance of my signature, you can copy & paste the following into text box:
[***CENTER][***URL=***"http:/***/www.flyertalk.com/forum/communitybuzz/971441-send-two-flyertalk-members-antarctica-namely-me-possibly-you.html"]:***-: [COLO***R="DarkOrchid"][***B]Send Canarsie and a fellow FlyerTalker to Antarctica!:-***:
Next, delete ALL sets of 3 stars ***
making sure other characters are left intact as typed above
You can change these words "Send Canarsie and a fellow FlyerTalker to Antarctica!"
to anything else YOU want for your signature to display.
The rest of characters will give you formatting and url link to this thread.
Click "save signature"

Another vote...up to 188 now! Also, I would love to go! I'm an environmental science major in school, and would be able to tie a project into the trip, even furthering the experience. As it turns out, winter is my favorite season, so it only makes sense, Antarctica in the summer! Alright, it was a stretch, but if I were to go, you wouldn't hear me complaining about the cold, as a matter of fact, I love it!
Okay, either way, if you don't take me, good luck with the competition and may you gather the most votes and win! (And maybe take me with you so I can make all the other Enviro Sci majors wicked jealous haha)
The *** are not required, you can post using the ... tags.

Canarsie picked up 10 votes overnight, but the person who was next up the ranks suddenly picked up 60 votes in the middle of the night, so our fearless leader hadn't moved up the ladder. A lot of aggressive voting going on elsewhere, but the 200,000+ Flyertalkers are lethargic.

That is my fault.
I have not marketed this cause for myself well enough on FlyerTalk, partly because I am typically not comfortable in calling attention to myself and therefore do not usually do it, and partly because I do not want to be overly blatant about this rare display of self-interest on my part, which I try to balance with providing assistance and information on FlyerTalk. I also do not want anyone to think that I am getting any special treatment of any kind. I know it is silly of me to think this way...

OK, people, the shy wimp doesn't want to toot his own horn, so we'd better start tooting it louder for him.

I just voted ... or am about to ...
... as soon as my registration confirmation e-mail pops in.
Good luck, Canarsie; you're heading in the right direction.
I have a nice Nikon I'd be more than willing to take along, as well as my DAT recorder.
... I'm heading to South Africa next June, but if I am the chosen Antarctic travel companion, perhaps I'll just shoot north to Cape Town right after our final handshake!
