I was just about to post .. *sigh* We'll be there Oct. 12-15, a month too late.
Then I caught sight of the big red 2010.
We're a maybe.
We were there for a couple days after Salzburg last September, pricelined the Marriott Renaissance for $75/night:
Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: US$75.00
Subtotal: US$150.00
Taxes & Service Fees: US$25.00
Total Charges: US$175.00
Location was fairly convenient by the river & across the corner from a subway station, but not in heart of downtown. We'd definitely shoot for that hotel again.

Oddly we will be visiting VIE 17-19 Sep, this year, happy to do a practice run at the Heurige
Edit - the Vienna Intercontinental is currently on "pointsbreaks" at 5000 points a night for Priority Club members but you can only book 12 months ahead
Point Breaks are only bookable through a three month period from when they are made available. The current one at the IC Vienna is valid through October 31st, 2009 or until 5K rooms are fully booked out.

I'm interested, but a bit confused. You call it a waltz do, but there is no waltzing scheduled.
Does this mean I should not consider packing the dance shoes & dress?

If you actually pack and wear that stuff, you can be sure that szg and I will find you a waltz.
I am a "maybe" - already have a possible trip to Alaska scheduled for that timeframe. But having lived in VIE for 15 years, it doesn't take much to get me back there

This looks perfect - been wanting to go to Vienna for a long time and probably only have time for a long weekend next year. We'll work on award travel once the booking window opens up for then.
(some of us actually need a year's advance notice to make something like this work in our schedules - thanks for the early heads up.)
Very hopeful, GrizShel + 1.
