Occupations of frequent flyers? / avg nights a year not at home.
I looked through the who we are forum and I didn't see many consultants?
I'd imagine that consultants, sales ppl and mgrs/directors/vp's of companies are the ones traveling the most here?
I was wondering what everyone does?
I think it'd be neat to find out average nights a year people aren't at home.
I'll start
- Consultant
- 2008 - 143 nights at hotels ... not sure how many on couches.
- 2009 - Today is the 141st day, I have spent 80 nights at a hotel so far and 27 nights on couches.
Real Estate Management for investment company in large scale residential properties. 9 Nights out so far this year. How many day trips, well that's a different story.

Coming out of semi-retirement and a new career for me, Independent Travel Consultant working with Brownell Travel and Virtuoso. Let's just say I was traveling 4 of the last 5 weeks.

Does your company pay you something for the nights on couches?
Just wondering why you do that rather than rack up points?
Currently retired yet looking. Previously employed as a Training Systems Administrator which had me on the road 120 + days p/y and in hotels 100 + nights p/y. The job also required the surgical attachment of my cell phone and laptop (much to the chagrin of Mrs. Italy). No nights on a couch but many nights trying to sleep TATL

On weekends we have the option of flying home or flying elsewhere. I don't have a nice play in the bay area so I prefer to go elsewhere. When we fly elsewhere, we can only expense the flight (if its equal or lesser ... if its more, we have to absorb the difference)
I go to LA, Houston, Cleveland, NYC, Hartford and this weekend London! =)
So when I head to other locations, I typically sleep on my buddy's couches. I'm usually not home about a month at a time and come back for a weekend to get new clothes then do another month away. This is why I live so humbly in SF. $500 rent - so you can imagine that its not very nice =P

One of two owners of a small consulting firm. 29 nights so far this year. No couches. We're actually close to the point at which my wife will be able to join me at my hotels in various places -- my main haunts are London, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Melbourne, and Washington, DC, but all but London tend to vary year by year. Last year, Mexico City and The Hague were big, this year Mexico City only once early in the year. China and South Africa appear to be in my future. But, unlike the OP, I don't usually stay anywhere too long.
Year to date: 54 nights in hotel rooms. Trying to stay within my budget and still travel as much as possible; so I have been getting some terrific deals on Hotwire and Priceline but will get to SPG Platinum in just a few more stays.
I am in the wine business and get to travel to all sorts of glamorous places in the midwest.
