We once got an Black and Decker iron ....or, so we thought from the box. The person who gave it to us had actually glued the flaps shut, so we assumed it was in the original packing.
Not until I needed that box size for a gift the following Christmas did I finally unpack the iron .... and found a bunch of great old movie videos.

Someone who expressed disappointment because they think they received a re-gifted item that goes for $0.99 on e-bay is in for a big surprise when they actually open the box.
Many of us look forward to this each year and put quite a bit of thought and effort into the gifts we select and send. Be careful before you jump to conclusions.
Can't wait to be surprised.
flygirl, I agree. Many of us take SS seriously. As a matter of fact, the elves up here in (NPO) North Pole are working very hard to get things ready for Santa. Every so often, one of the elves misbehaves. I would suggest misbehaving elves be reported to my boss, wharvey.
Who else has sent teaser gifts? Let's fool our giftee by reporting here.

Isn't half the fun just the process of unwrapping/unpacking a gift? I would've felt compelled to open the box, even if I didn't need the iron.
Shopping and wrapping done - had to remind SO to go pick it up for me as I was away. Now just got to get to post office with that, the other billion boxes of presents, the 90 odd christmas cards and my sanity!
I came home tonight to find a package from Williams-Sonoma on my doorstep (joy, oh joy!)... The only problem is, I have no idea who sent it - my Secret Santa or perhaps someone else (our family has just started 'pulling names' and it's possible the person who got mine is unfamiliar with the process).
I went so far as to have S.O. open the shipping box to check it out for me (I don't want to peak before Christmas) but there was no note inside - unless it's in the inner box which I won't open until the 25th. So, if it's from my SS, I got it and will hopefully figure it out when I open the package. Until then, I will place the box on my mantle and stare at it (and, after a couple of gins, it will undoubtedly start to stare back!)

As the idiot who didn't look in the box, I am truly red-faced and apologetic.
I haven't fully gone through the box, as I am saving it for the holidays. However, it is clearly stuffed with all sorts of girlie goodies~just my favorites!
This would have been the surprise of the season, except...
I hurt someone's feelings. And I am deeply sorry.

I'm willing to work as a middleman. Send the gift to me, and I can forward it from my home. I'll never tell the secret....and it can't be traced back to Ms. chick.
I have a local agent currently working on this for me...if my plan falls through, I may call you in as back up!

You know, I had never done that before. But based on the gift giver and based on a funeral I had to attend later that week, it was a terribly strange holiday. Now, I most certainly have learned my lesson!

An awful lot of hints and tips are going out this year (and early too) to connect the dots between giver and receiver. I like anonymous and just knowing the recipient will enjoy what they receive. Then again, there are those companies that insist on including the purchaser's name in the box.
