The Franconian DO - Nuremberg, Germany: 12.-14. June 2009
Hi everybody,
after attending some excellent DOs in the past it is time to give something back to the community. This is why i decided to host a DO in my hometown Nuremberg.
I know it is an early announcement for a DO next year (2009), but I want to lock the date asap because two major European DOs for 2009 have already been announced.
Nuremberg is located in North Bavaria approx. 170km (106 mi) north of Munich and about 220km (134mi) southeast of Frankfurt. The city is served by its own international airport (NUE). It takes just a 15 minute subway ride to get from the airport to the historic city center.
What do you associate with the city of Nuremberg? Some people might think of Bratwurst (fried sausage), Lebkuchen (spicy gingerbread) or the Christkindlesmarkt, Nuremberg’s world-famous Christmas market. Others may remember the Nuremberg Trials and the city abused by the Nazis as the City of the Nazi Party Rallies. Others again may think of Nuremberg as a Renaissance city of European standing where artists and men of learning such as Albrecht Dürer and Willibald Pirckheimer worked, where Martin Behaim devised the first world globe, and where Peter Henlein made a fob watch tick for the first time.
All those images make up the many-faceted mosaic of Nuremberg. In today's reality there is the aspect of the outward-looking economic location with its excellent infra-structure, with future-oriented industries, and with its permanent innovative drive. There is the seat of learning and research with renowned universities and research institutes. There is the culture city with its varied museum scene and its wide range of attractive events. There is the social aspect of the city with many exemplary projects and institutions. And there is Nuremberg's high quality of life, underlined by the findings of numerous international surveys – and enjoyed on a daily basis by its 500,000 inhabitants. And there are many vibrant cultures living together in Nuremberg, just as much part of the fabric of Nuremberg as the lively mix of history and modern times making up this city.
More detailed info about this DO will follow in the upcoming months.

you can find various other hotels in all categories on hrs. i would recommend to choose a centrally located hotel ...
*A Flights to NUE LH from BRU, CDG, DUS, FRA, HAM, MUC, TXL LX from ZRH SK from CPH TK from IST
other *A carriers offer flights to NUE via FRA, MUC, ZRH and CPH.
SkyTeam Flights to NUE AF from CDG KL from AMS
other ST carriers offer flights to NUE via AMS and CDG.
unfortunatly no oneworld airline is currently flying to NUE
when travelling with a OW carrier the best strategy would be to fly to FRA and take a ICE-train to Nuremberg (it's a two hour ride).
Air Berlin Flights to NUE
from BGY, BUD, DUS, HAM, ORY, PMI, STN, TXL, VIE

As recently discussed in person , your home town together with nearby Bamberg already form a joint entry on my famous Wish List. That being the case, this seems like a golden opportunity!
Count me in as seriously interested, though it's a bit too early to be definite.

Thank you f0zzyNUE for organizing this. When I first read your post early this morning, I failed to appreciate you meant 2009! I thought, that is nice, but if it is this June, it will be of interest mainly to Fters in Europe. After noticing the above comments, the penny dropped.
I'm interested, "though it's a bit too early to be definite". I think it is great though that you are giving the FT Community such advance notice. I'm unaware that there has been a previous NUE DO.
Of course when I think of Nuremberg, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg comes to mind.

i know it's quite early to confirm attendance. however i wanted to announce the date as early as possible - especially to prevent a collision with another major do.
thanks to all the FTers who already posted their interest in this DO.

I am also interested, though it is a little too early to tell. I'll subscribe to the thread and once the schedule develops a bit further, I should be able to make a more definite statement.
Thanks for organising this!

I am interested as well and I have marked the dates already in my PDA. It should be doable for me, but it's a bit too early to confirm anything. SO put me down as a maybe

About time...
If I still live in NUE next year (about to start a "HON in SYD-options?" thread) you can definetly count me in. Wow, having a DO without having to fly there :-)
