Well, I've made my visit and let me tell you that you guys are going to have a great time! If anyone wants a preview, feel free to check out my (largely pictorial) trip report. (I also have linked reports on Regensburg and Bamberg).
In terms of any hints or tips, I'd just mention the following :-
1. I'm a Hilton HHonors Diamond member, but I stayed at the excellent Sheraton Carlton on this trip. Both the Le Meridien and the Sheraton Carlton are very handy for the station and within easy walking distance of all the Old Town attractions. Do be aware that the Hilton is well out of the way and that you'll have to factor into your planning the loss of valuable time transferring to and from where you really want to be.
2. That said, as you'd expect, public transport is very good. I used the U-Bahn to go to and from the airport and it was very easy. A single ticket costs EUR1.90, but for just EUR3.80 you can get a day ticket. Furthermore, if you buy one on Saturday, it's valid on Sunday as well!
3. If anyone is staying in Nuremberg before or after the Do, you may like to try this restaurant. I found it more or less by accident on Saturday and liked it so much that I went back for my last night in town on Monday. As you can see from their website, they can count some famous faces among their customers!
I have a 12:45PM FRA-ORD flight on Monday. Any suggestions on the best way to get to FRA from Nuremberg Monday morning? Should I stay even bother to stay in Nuremberg Sunday night or just go to FRA Sunday night?
I'm not sure of the time/logistics for the connection. I suppose the logistics question applies to the FRA -Nuremberg trip as well. I get into FRA at 9:55AM on the 12th, so it's not so problematic.
Is there any easy train connect from FRA or is it a schlep into town? Does LH run a bus to Nuremberg the way they do to SXB?

The train from Frankfurt(M) Flughafen Fernbf to NUE is quick. As is the return - leaves almost hourly. 2 hours ICE, longer for regional. Maybe I'm not understanding the question?
BTW, thanks for the Meridien info. I arrive FRA on June 8 and will probably be daytripping to Bamberg and Bayreuth.

nor4 - I've booked the train on Monday morning, Nürnberg Hbf - Frankfurt Flughafen Fernbf. 0900 - 1121. Direct, on ICE, €39 one-way, when I booked on db.de . With your flight times though, you may wish to take the 0800 train, which is only €29!
I'm shocked! UA offers 3 perfectly good FRA-IAD flights that you could have booked. The things some people will do for double miles!
Is it that obvious? IAD-ORD-FRA-ORD-IAD=9863x2=19726 vs. IAD-FRA-IAD=8160X2=16320. A mere 3406 additional miles, but I get to transit through beautiful, dependable ORD!
Oh well, this will get me to 95K, so I can start burning some miles this year...before the cost goes up again.

So FRA has an ICE stop at the airport. Easy transition to the flight? Well it is FRA, but given that...

Yes, easy. If you have luggage to check, you can drop it at the LH check-in counters in the train station, at the beginning of the moving walkways towards the main terminal on the right. To security in the terminal, it is maybe a 5-minute walk.
I'll be taking the ICE from FRA to Nurnberg on Friday. Plane gets in at 9:55 so I'm thinking of the 11:30 train.
The cheapest non-ref 2nd cl is E39 while the 1st tik is E49.
Is there much difference between 1st and 2nd on this train? It's a 2 1/2 hour trip following an overnight flight, so I'm trying to figure out if it's worth the extra E10.
Any thoughts?

seating in 1st is 1-2, whereas it is 2-2 in 2nd. It is usually also much less full in 1st. I would probably pay 10 Euros, but get a seat in the quiet zone where it is not allowed to use mobile phones.
