2006 Gilroy Garlic Festival, July 28-30 - DO?

I'm very interested in going to the Garlic Festival this year. Should there be a DO set up this year?

Since FT "DO" and meet-up threads (or folks looking for interest in a "Do") are traditionally in Community, I'm moving this there.

If you go, eat some for me

Ahh... I had thought Community Buzz was for DO already planned and agreed upon, not proposals. Thanks ^

I love garlic, but I love hops even more.

But there's surly beer at a garlic festival... not so sure about garlic at a beer festival

How about just one big massive West Coast DO?

I've always wanted to go to the Garlic Festival and I love the Portland Brewers Festival too.

Alas, I'm already committed to teach classes in Grand Rapids, MI that weekend... so I'll be nowhere near the west coast!

It's a great festival. I'd just bring a lot of water because it gets HOT during the day in Gilroy. I mean really really hot.

No, you mean Africa Hot, Hot during the garlic festival. I'll send my wife and mother-in-law, they love that festival. Me, I'll take a pass.

I can confirm that there is beer there at the Gilroy Garlic Festival — and please don’t call me “Shirley”.

In fact, there is garlic beer!

They also have garlic chocolate, garlic bread, garlic ice cream, garlic olives, and many other garlic-infused food and drink.

The garlic ice cream, for example, tasted similarly to vanilla ice cream — until after it is swallowed, which is when the garlic kicks in.

I attended alone years ago because I just happened to be there over the weekend while on a business trip.

You will know you are arriving in Gilroy long before you reach it, for obvious reasons.

For those of you who are OMNI-forum-enabled, here is a little more information about my experience at the Gilroy Garlic Festival.

Even if you go alone, enjoy!

I walked out of there reeking of garlic, but who cares? I had a great time!

Gilroy is about 45-60 minutes south of SJC on the 101.

If the garlic wasn't enough to convince everyone, maybe the outlet mall will

Way overrated - it's a tourist-only restaurant. The Magic Garlic in Berkeley is cheaper, better, and less crowded.

The traffic to and from Gilroy is horrendous during the Garlic Festival. You'll be spending more time than you think on the road. Plus it's bloody hot down there most summers.
